I think that we can all agree that 5 hours between switching talents is quite a stretch, so you’re saying if we need something for like 5 minutes we can’t go back to the one we were using for five whole hours?
In my opinion, I think 5 hours is well beyond too much. Considering there’s… I think 5 talents? It would be TWENTY HOURS to experiment with all 5 of them if you do not count the first one you get. I would say that 15 minutes, maybe 20 minutes maximum would be a reasonable cooldown. 5 hours is just way too much of a detriment, especially considering people want to experiment with different talents, though I do think some kind of cooldown can be in place to prevent people from abusing different talent perks. What do you all think?
EDIT: I have went to an hour, after hearing some of the replies on my post. Now to think of it, 15-20 minutes could allow people to go change it on the fly repeatedly. An hour would solve that problem without seeming like an excessive amount of time.
Just started getting hunting? Pop your Navy Summoner and swap to Sentinel to use the gem! Now that you got out of combat? Swap back to Shadow and now you can find the chart easily. Whoops, looks like you’re getting hunted again, it’s been 15 minutes, Seafaring time.
I can make some rather extreme ideas up but if people could dexterously swap between talents just to maximize their benefit in a fight, I think at that point you’ve messed up severely.
Also, not everyone will use the new talent immediately, until after said talent is… well, fully done (if you can). I dunno. Probably because they wanna see what the whole thing does first. I certainly would wait.
Alright, fair point, but an hour is still a little excessive for me, so how about meeting in the middle with 30 minutes? It’s not too long as to significantly hinder you talent-wise, but it’s also long enough to prevent quickswaps like in your demonstration. Sound fair?
the entire point of the cooldown is being unable to switch talent on the fly for whatever is the most convenient at this very moment.
now you are free to disagree with this mentality in the first place, but just saying 5 hours is intentional and wasn’t a mistake. that means about one swap maximum per session which would be the goal.
I still think 5 hours is a little too much, even if it’s to prevent you from doing it more than once in a session. I’d be willing to go to an hour, but that’s the absolute maximum for me. 1 hour is definitely enough to prevent people from switching talents on the fly, but is also enough to not feel like a significant hinderance to their gameplay either.
I mean, 30 minutes… yeah I’d agree. It’s just long enough that getting into fights after or during a chart wouldn’t let you swap that easily, but short enough that it wouldn’t feel entirely like a slog. For a while, maybe.
