readd the old system from WoM where your name would show up above you and in chat
Details/background on your proposal
so we know that byfron exists, right? this (mainly) solves the earlier issue of exploiters as an excuse for getting rid of player names showing in game. as a result, i believe we should have the system back.
Reason to add/change
it’s a good immersion feature, some may say even better than the dirt accumulation or tanning. if vetex likes immersion so much, then this will be a surefire way to do so.
“but you won’t be able to find exploiters!” maybe there could be a settings option to re-enable usernames, but character/story names would be default.
edit: i was looking at old wom footage and found
make it so that the leave message is “First Last (Username) has left/joined the server” so that exploiters can be more easily caught
edit 2:
we need keybinds to see usernames, possibly sensing showing usernames
(ty for the idea zawaito)
You could also have the username be under the character nametag, so that even if you couldn’t check the username in the leaderboard, you could still tell who’s who from simply looking at a player ingame.
its really not necessary, it could just work like WoM or even deepwoken do now. If you hover your mouse over an in-game name on the leaderboard then it shows you the player’s username. This would maintain the immersion without disrupting it or adding too much clutter.
This kind of ignores the point of immersion, everybody should have a uniform experience to enjoy this game. Exploiters are officially destroyed so we have no real need to ever grab somebody’s username anyway; and even if we did have a need for it, vetex could just make the leaderboard function like the one in WoM/Deepwoken where you can hover over the in-game name and see the username instead.
exploiters who leave the moment they think they’re caught would basically be invincible if the username was not also shown above their head.
especially very paranoid exploiters would quite literally never get caught unless the anti-cheat does something.
Im all for this. It really breaks the immersion when i look at a person and their name is a bunch of random numbers and special characters
And just to sum the exploiter solutions in one place, we could:
Have it as is, as the leaderboard shows both the character name and the account name.
Change the leaderboard so hovering over a character name shows the player name
have the “left the server” message display both the character name and the account name
Have it on a toggle between the character name and the account name. But for this one it would be better if there was a key for it. Like “Hold numpad 0 to see the username”
