Reminders for AO (Part 1)

Vetex is going to have the ultimate brainstorming session to make all of these skills

It is the first weapon skill, vetex loves working on the dagger first

I believe what it said on the trello was that he removed all the pre existing moves and made all of them from scratch so I believe this is a completely different dagger throw than the one in WoM
(Sorry double ping)

you are correct
has new effects and such

Yes! I got something right about AO development let’s go

Good to see the anti climatic issue will be fixed, this hopefully means fighting with weapons will be cooler.

not just cooler, but viable

Well, it’s not that the weapons in WoM aren’t viable, in fact, they were pretty good. They just weren’t ideal for PvE nor PvP.

how are they viable if they aren’t good at either of the things you just mentioned

Climatic combat doesn’t affect viability since it doesn’t affect its damage nor its use-ability.
The only reason I said weapons needed to be changed nonetheless was due to its lack of diversity. Think about it, no AoE moves, no placed attacks, but rather only close range and ranged attacks that require godly aim. I’m sure you know that vetex isn’t really changing damage scaling or how weapons work, but revamping weapons to make them cooler and more diverse to attract other to weapons so that magic isn’t the ONLY thing you have to go in AO.

But to be viable in any game is to actually be usable for the games core mechanics, if a thing cannot successfully complete the games core mechanic it can’t be classified as viable.
Vetex is only slightly changing weapon scaling agree there
But I would disagree on the part of changing how they work, vetex is changing them to be more ranged base and to actually be able to compete with magic(and fighting styles)
Making them cooler was just an after effect of making weapons viable

Yes, he’s buffing weapons to be a more major playstyle to compete with magic, but also to attract more player towards diversity.
Everything else you said is just completely wrong, why would vetex waste him time remaking an already stable combat system? You probably misheard me, vetex is adding moves and new effects to attract more players and allow weapons to compete with magic, he’s not completely redoing weapons. This means they are most definitely going to be similar to how weapons operate current game, I don’t know where you found vetex ever saying he would revamp weapons entirely, but that’s simply false. In simpler terms, he’s just adding new effects and skills to buff up its popularity and give those who go for a full weapon class something to be excited for, not changing their mechanics if that’s what you were trying to say.

He already revamped weapons entirely this is basically part 2 also it was under “weapon revamp” sure the melee combat of weapons will be the same save for a few minor differences a bit or aoe on basics swings a bit of knock back aerial attacks but the melee combat of the weapons isn’t meant to be the main form of damage for the weapons now, that spot is for the skills
Sure the current weapons are stable, but they again aren’t viable whatsoever in the current state of the game, there’s a reason that people attempt a challenge where they use only weapons, the reason it’s a challenge is because weapons aren’t viable in their current state
The skills are basically turning the current weapon system in wom on its head due to the fact that it will be ranged, it’s not just more effects and the cool factor or diversity it’s making the weapons system similar to magic so that weapons users have an opportunity in the game. Currently in wom weapons are only ever used for their skills and rarely( in the case of the bow) for their m1

And also on the trello it’s been stated that all current weapon skills got yeeted so that vetex could make them from scratch and that he’s revamped all weapons again see the “weapon revamp” item on the trello
So I would think that it’s fair to say that vetex has essentially revamped weapons thoroughly and created a new system for them.

But moving on from this friendly argument(we’re still friendly right?)
How do you think weapons skills are gonna work?
Cause I think from the way vetex has described it on the trello it seems that weapons skills are going to be similar to stave adventures magic system

the combat system in WoM is pretty lackluster tbh, and vetex is aware of this. Melee weapons really needed a buff to make them viable against magic, and it looks like that’s exactly what he’s doing.

Probably similar to how they already work in WoM, like you press Q and (fwoosh) cool ability. Hopefully they’ll be wayyy more viable now, I really want to be able to use more weapons heh

Gonna clarify some points here

Weapon M1/M2 is basically gonna be completely useless due to how much air time we spend. Sure, if you get close somehow and they’re on the ground, you’ll be able to hit them and do something. Doesn’t mean it’s good, it’s just an option.

Melee scaling in WoM is completely ass. You aren’t doing as much as a magic user, but you also have 0 advantages to use weapons over magic. Take it’s lackluster move pool, range, stamina, mobility, etc. It doesn’t create a playstyle worth using over magic.

AO on the other hand acknowledges weapons as a more complete playstyle and will have similar treatment to how magics being handled. It’ll have more mobility, range, proper dmg scaling, etc. Weapons and fighting styles will be viable.

The combat system in WoM is complete ass and saying minimal to no changes is just dishonest. Screw stamina, lack of mobility, spell spam, lack of options, stamina, stamina, and stamina. A lot of these have been fixed in AO and makes combat nicer (not completely outstanding, maybe one day).

Wrong choice of words, he’s revamping the weapons but not in the way clashmaster is thinking.

ohhh I just misunderstood you, since you mentioned weapon revamp mb
