I’m just gonna make this quick. Both the music and music video are fucking painful and less than mediocre.
Anyway. Yes. Yes, I actually tortured myself to watch the entirety of the video and apparently the original got privated because the dude got “bullied” for it
Anyway the music video & “story”, let’s talk about it, it’s basically this individual who I can only assume is supposed to be Dream, who has the extremely cliché story of a person who gets bullied and tormented for being “weird”, and not normal and in this case Dream is weird because he spends so much time on his pc (wow so original) and wearing a mask to hide the “tears” or some shit. My problem with this besides it being an extremely boring and cliché story is that why does he wear the mask when he’s playing games??? As if anyone can see him or give a shit, then later he’s at the door of some strangers or his parents or something I don’t even know, apparently holding his mask in shame while what behind him seems to be the lights of a police car?? Did he commit a crime? Is he running away from the police? I don’t get it at all but maybe that’s just me. Later he slams the door shut in anger and sadness, I’m assuming at his parents after showing his report card which he had gotten all F’s in then he fucking decides to put on his mask and start playing games again instead of doing literally anything else which would’ve been way more productive, but I’m not Dream so what can I say? He then takes an eye exam and turns out to need glasses the lyrics say “They think that I need glasses”, I don’t see how you can doubt a professional but ok, also the paper slip reads “You are not normal” how in the damn is needing glasses not normal? I don’t think real doctors would write shit like that anyway that’s kinda messed up, I guess 75% of people who use any vision correction aren’t normal either. He’s so distraught that he dumps out his “normal” pills (bro the cringe) which I assume is for him to consume, I can see being distraught over needing glasses but taking antidepressants (I assume they are) seems like an extreme reaction, to me at least. He then puts on his mask again and plays games. Again. How the hell do you change moods that fast? Dude went through 46 moods in a span of 20 seconds and even if the “real” time was 2 3 days it was still a shitton of moods to go through and repeat no? He proceeds to take out the slip of paper and add on “and that’s a good thing” I don’t really get the point of this, no one’s gonna see it and no one is gonna care. Why is he so obsessed with that slip of paper? I guess it’s for self confidence or something? Then apparently he gets a burst of happiness and is this excited and pumped individual. Where did this even come from? By just playing online with his mask on? Why does the mask even bring him joy and happiness? I really don’t get any of this but from what I presume the point of the mask is that it’s his identity or some shit that makes him feel better (magically). By the way don’t let this deter you from the fact that what this is based off of (the minecraft skin) doesn’t bear a mask at all where did it come from? You guessed it! His fanbase!! Woo!!! I’m actually not sure where it started from but it’s likely his fans made it a thing tbh.
In a nutshell mask good no mask bad.
2.3/10 all in all shitty music video not the worst ever, but I guess he’s not really experienced in this industry but that’s not an excuse for him to put out dumb cliché garbage like this, some people should just stick away from music…
Influencers nowadays could be spewing demonic goat sounds from their esophagus but due to their fan base it’s automatically seen as something good to listen to. People really think that because they have a following that they could automatically go down a route of doing music
I’m actually friends with the group that worked on the video. I play gartic phone with Phyre and Hozq every other week lmaoo.
I don’t have details on what working with dream was like, but from what I can gather is that dream was respectful for the most part. It’s just dream didn’t really know what he was doing. From the production of the song itself, to the music video, to the people working on the music video.
Hozq and Phyre are 16 and 17 respectively. Both have worked extensively on minecraft animation and similar vfx in the past. They don’t do modeling. Hozq himself usually does rigging in blender, and he rigs guns. Not humans. Phyre doesn’t usually do projects like this either, seeing as he typically animates Minecraft models. Not real models. Either way, dream pretty much had no idea what he was doing when he put the team together lmfaoo. It’s part of why I can’t really get too upset at the animation, because the people dream hired didn’t even specialize in it themselves. They were just promised a big chunk of money, which is understandable.
How… Why… I guarantee that 90% of children today spend most of their free time on their PC or electronics. Very few people will bully you for it, especially in developed countries.
That sounds uncomfortable and annoying when you’re playing a game. Especially for an extended period of time. I’m sure it’s an allegory or something, but really, is that the best they could do?
Hey!
No doctor or psychologist will prescribe you something called “normal pills”. Those don’t exist. If it was medicine for a mental illness of some kind like schizophrenia or depression, then he shouldn’t be dumping them. I get that Dream was trying to tell a story of some kind, but dumping doctor prescribed meds and showing it to children who look up to you is NOT a good idea. They might get it into their heads that they should always dump meds for a mental illness that they may develop in the future, and I’m no psychologist, BUT THAT AIN’T FUCKEN GOOD.
I… Don’t see why. Fair enough, my vision isn’t the worst out there. I just have some prescribed glasses for my near-sightedness (which I almost never wear), but I have never met anybody being absolutely CRUSHED because they need glasses. If you think that wearing glasses might make you look “lame” or “nerdy” then you can always wear contacts. Again, Dream gives children a bad message about prescriptions that some people might need. This may lead to children bullying others who need glasses, or it could result in a child who needs glasses but doesn’t wear them because “Dream said it wasn’t cool”.
Still have no idea why he wears a mask.
The answer is drugs!
Ah yes, the placebo effect. Except… It’s self inflicted. Self inflicted placebo usually doesn’t last too long in my experience.
Your reply is an essay
Also notice how I seperated them, the first bit was just to sum it up if you didn’t give enough of a shit to read it (I know most people didn’t)
