several months ago I made a suggestion for an item lending feature but many people criticized it saying there were not strong incentives to rent an item, so the feature wouldn’t be widely used
However, we know now that grinding in the dark sea is going to be very capital intensive. The more durable your ship is, the more waves and tornados it can survive. The faster it is, the less time you have to spend travelling. There are also random spawning npc ships in the dark sea, which good cannons/rams/siege weapons? will probably help with. The best ship parts and enchantments for ship parts are in the dark sea now, and once you have them, it’s easier to grind for more of them
And there’s the new rare fishing rod and shovel progression.
Note: The proposed item lending feature wouldn’t allow you to lend a brig or any ship for that matter, only items (including ship parts)
Ruins the point of farming for items if you can just rent them. I dont see why you would need to rent things anyways? You can do darksea will no issues with just bronze sea ship parts
unless somebody decides to lend something to you for free, you’ll have to offer something in exchange for it, and you still won’t have it permanently. Having an item permanently is always better than renting it
The point is to maximize your rewards. You can go to the dark sea with just a caravel and no equipment, but you wouldn’t get as much in the same amount of time. You don’t need to rent things, but it’s in your interest to if it increases your rewards by enough to compensate you for the cost of renting it. If the market price is determined by supply and demand, then it will never be so high that nobody will rent an item at that price, because there will always be suppliers who have extra copies of the same ship part and don’t need it and will lend it for very low prices if necessary.
Also, how can there be no point to farming items because you can rent them if there’s no point to renting items? Renting items can’t be not worth it and too op at the same time
