Reworking AO’s Combat and Builds (Moved Discussion)

I’d say to either nerf or remove Power.

I want this, for it feels like a needed stat in your builds, rather than an optional one to assist you in a particular area.

Armor-piercing, for example, could be used to defeat enemies with high armor, not do too much against low armor, but it will still make it easier.

Power is a flat damage increase; there’s no situation where you shouldn’t use this. It’s not like you can use a small amount of power to achieve a good result; virtually every other stat is useless compared to Power.

I don’t think defense can stay because it’s made to be the direct opposite stat to power. Keeping defense would just encourage people to stack it and get tanky with no viable way to contest it stat wise.

Doesn’t armor pierce or whatever it’s called no do more with more defense?

That’s why I said viable way

AP is not viable at all

In a world of no power. I think AP becomes viable

Even then this is just power vs defense again but more one sided in some cases. I’d rather see what happens when both go

Some people on here don’t understand the meta at all :sob:

Conj/warlord is meta currently, not mage :sob: :sob:

peak gaslighting

legit every leaderboard player that has attempted to hunt me was on conj :sob:

People are misunderstanding their ideas in balance and content:

Mage is unnecessarily bloated in content, it’s not overpowered in said content. Mage feels like it’s a problem because It’s the class that can do everything the others can; from a point of having classes and them being different, mage is a problem. Mage isn’t infinetly strong in its aspects, it has its limits, surprisngly, using magic alone isn’t enough to tap into the entire elemental system in game…

That title goes to weapons. Weapons are stupidly overpowered, they have the best dynamic when it comes to actually being used; no wonder every boss that’s difficult uses them— it matches them in the players’ hands. Only reason Allanon is bad to fight is because he’s a weapon victim who’s crashing out— and guess what, it was a greased weapon that caused it. Everything you’d think you’d get out of magic is actually provided by Weapons. You put any other class with a hybrid of weapons and all of the sudden it’s like 50x stronger because Weapons interact in a way that’s perfect for everything else.

From a content standpoint, there isn’t anything wrong— it never feels like weapons are doing more than they’re supposed to: they’re tools, of course they work good with other things, and the skill-note system + their lore limitations feels authentic to the game and what you’d expect from a weapon. It’s just somehow done in a way that makes them unbearable to fight against.

Attempted implies they failed

Usually, because meta doesn’t matter when I hide tens of miles away and they never find me

I found you.

help

i think removing power and defence would be a pretty good thing to be honest :D
ive been saying it since before the nimbus sea, the most oppressive stats in ao are power and defence, because they’re REQUIRED on EVERY build to be viable in the slightest in pvp. There’s a reason other stats are referred to as “sub-stats”, because they’re just not able to hold a candle to power and defence. That’s also why the current meta is literally just power + defence
