(This post was inspired by this, so check it out I guess.)
So, rivals. We love em. My rival, Nolan, is my best friend ever! But sometimes I think to myself, “hey Nolan, doesn’t that pirate hat and cloak ever get… boring?”
That’s why I’m here to suggest a change to this! I think, at some point, there should be a Neutral Merchant, similar to Thorin. We’ll just call him uh… Bob. Bob Hermes. Hermes being his last name. Yep.
Bob would be located… somewhere. Probably a post office or something. He’d say something like “I can get any mail anywhere.” From there, you could ask Bob to bring an item to your rival. From there, you’d select what item(s) you want to give to your rival, and that’s it. Maybe a cutscene or something would play with him going like, kinda fast, running up to our rival, and dropping an envelope right by them.
The item (would probably be limited to just armor) would be purely Vanity. It would have no effect on the stats of your rival. You could give them a full Sunken set and it’d effectively do nothing.
However, I feel this fixes the problem of our rivals having… er, no style choices, and sometimes looking rather ugly. This could also add in some, er, roleplay aspects (I’m not a big fan of roleplay.) Perhaps you want to wear all black and have your rival wear all white for a Yin Yang thing? I dunno.
But yeah. I’d appreciate this being added so I can give Nolan a toothpick or something. K bye.
personally i think the main appeal of rivals is to see them progress, get their own style and kit
that ruins this concept a bit, and also makes no sense with how your rival accept your gifts and decides to wear your stuff when they are supposed to be your nemesis. why force your rival to follow your lore when they already got their own kind of personality and appearance
Honestly I feel like there should just be more archetypes. Keep the original lame ones for all regular criminals, but once someone becomes your rival they might get a variation of what they had
For example, instead of a regular archer outfit they drop it for a purple hood and sunglasses. I’ve never seen a suit or a feather hat or a sombrero or Hawaiian shirt on an NPC, but I’ve seen one million and one butt ugly tin men with knight helmets. Why even have a face at that point?
The thought of the fact how the player sees the rival as a friend but the rival seeing the player as their nemesis is funny also it’s funny how you’re basically telling your rival their ugly when you do this 10/10
