I cannot find a single Roblox game that does melee combat properly. Basically every Roblox game, even melee-centric ones, leave out critical mechanics necessary for making a fun game. Even black magic 2, which has almost everything it needs to be good, completely flops on the execution. It has a lock on mechanic and everything, but it doesn’t do its job. In my opinion, if you’re playing a fighting game, you’re near an enemy, you’re locked onto them, and you hit attack, you should hit them. In black magic, it’s not enough. You still need to deal with angling yourself properly and judging the distance between you and them, which are the exact problems lock on systems are supposed to solve. Also, despite being a fighting game, it has no controller compatibility, so my only option is to play with a keyboard. Are there any games that get this kind of stuff right?
sword fight on the heights
ah yes
I don’t get what you mean here, you want melee games to be devoid of the concept of spacing, or have some indicator as to how far you are from your opponent? Even typical fighting games like Smash Bros and MK don’t have a lack of spacing and angling, and still require the player to carry out these actions.
This basically gets into Wii Sports Boxing territory and similar games in which you are directly face with your opponent and at most you can only ever move left or right, which is by no means a bad thing, but a weird standard to judge every single Roblox melee game by, especially since it makes up for a small subgenre of melee games as a whole even outside of Roblox.
Spacing is not fun in 3d fighting games because it’s hard to judge how far you are from your opponent.
I never said anything about only being able to face towards the target. I said it’s not good that you can run directly towards a stationary target who you are locked on to, press attack, and miss.
even if there was a good fighting game on roblox, i very sincerely fucking doubt it would be optimized enough to be fun to play since most devs aren’t exactly as skilled as people who work on real combat-based games like arcsys does
i’m not sure if it’s a netcode issue since WoM handles it just fine for the most part, but GOD does it suck when you’re playing in a laggy server
and that experience is just black magic 2 all the time lol it is so fucking poorly optimized
honestly if you ask me you’re better off just not looking to roblox for any exceptional fighting games
also
every 3d fighting game i have ever played handles this perfectly fine. this is literally just a depth perception issue lmao
Yes most 3d fighting games have mechanisms in place to help handle this
but not in roblox
if that’s the case then i certainly haven’t noticed it lol
Name the fighting games you’re talking about.
Black Magic 2
Black Magic 1

“IM TAKING YOU TO BRAZIL” (no this isn’t a joke)
among others
No, Roblox games never include these things, only professional ones. This is what I was complaining about in the original post.
mmmm yeah no i’m still confused
i mean if you’re talking about proper camera positioning and stuff then i could see what you’re getting at (because 99% of roblox fighting games don’t do this for some reason) but other than that i have absolutely no clue what you’re talking about
Example: FFXV has a move called warpstrike. It is one of the most important and basic moves in the game. When you use it, you get snapped directly to your target.
… so you mean just skipping the process of actually having to close in on the enemy entirely?
This isn’t the only way to do it, but it’s how ffxv accomplished it.
ok ok ok let me just make sure i’m getting this straight
so what you’re telling me is; “spacing in 3d fighting games is not fun because judging distance on a 3D plane is inherently difficult, therefore not allowing you to straight up bypass the need to do so is considered a flaw”
am i following correctly?
dark souls?
Dark souls is a really unfun game.
can u give an example of multiple games that do this correctly?
FFXV is a rather extreme example. You do not need to completely eliminate any need for approaching your target. However, the act of walking up and attacking a stationary object should feel effortless.
