So by now, I assume everyone is familiar with the Nimbus Wilds satura mushroom cave secret. If you’re not, and don’t want to be spoiled, I suggest turning back.
Hidden inside a small crack in southeastern Nimbus wilds is a cavern offering an unusual sight: carpets of moss, grass or vines covering some of the cave’s walls and floor.
On these carpets grow unique glowing blue mushrooms, the legendary Satura mushroom, which restore a hefty 100 energy eaten raw, and canonically feed a person for weeks.
Lastly, and strangest of all, on the other side of this seemingly innocent cave lay a skeleton surrounded by blue flowers.
When I first encountered this cave, I found it pretty strange, and thought perhaps there is some obscure NPC dialogue I missed about it, or perhaps the lore will be built upon later. However, when I inspected its clothes up close and found it to be mage robes, a whole new theory sprung up in my mind.
The skeleton in satura mushroom cave is the Mage of Life.
A bold claim, I know, but I don’t think it’s baseless.
While I don’t remember the full story behind the Mage of Life, I do remember that she saved Skyhall from starving during its early days and was extremely powerful. I’m not sure, but I think it was also mentioned she helped crops grow and disappeared mysteriously.
There are several pieces of evidence linking the Mage of Life and the skeleton together:
- The skeleton is dressed as a mage. Not much of a proof, but something.
- The cave is overgrown and lush, despite being away from sunlight, likely thanks to the magic energy which remained inside the corpse.
- The flowers only grow around the corpse, again probably due to there being much more life magic near it.
- Satura mushroom is among the most energizing foods in the game and can canonically save people from starving. High amounts of energy also point to a high source of magic energy nearby.
- The cave is in the middle of nowhere.
I believe that, somehow, the Mage of Life ended up in this cave and died there, but due to being so powerful, her body continued radiating life magic afterwards, allowing the cave to become lush and creating energy-rich mushrooms.
I may also be late to this theory, but I haven’t seen anyone else mention it, so…
