The Sea Curses are inherently weak because Prometheus, the Titan god of fire, was the one who created them. Unlike the Olympian gods, who wield specific and powerful dominions, Prometheus lacks mastery over the elements involved in these curses. His domain is fire, not the other elements, and so his creations fall short in power. In contrast, if a god with authority over death, like Thanatos, were to create a curse rooted in death such as Morden’s Death Curse the curse would inherently carry far greater potency. Similarly, a Life Curse crafted by Phanes, the primordial god of life, or a Lightning Curse shaped by Zeus, the Olympian god of lightning, would be far more formidable. Prometheus was likely rushed in his work and forced to operate outside his realm of control. Consequently, his Sea Curses lack the elemental strength that only true masters of those domains could impart.
Very cool rb1
Thank yus, glad someone could agree.
Greek gods are not in control of their domains due to any inherent factor, they simply choose not to interfere with the other’s. Shown by Poseidon being able to create horses, and Zeus creating a fuck ton of other shit. Prometheus was a titan, which I don’t particularly know if they had different rules, but it certainly seemed so, considering how the Greek gods didn’t have the same control over time that say, Kronos did.
TLDR: Greek gods weren’t more/less powerful in specific aspects, Prometheus was just extra proficient in fire from what I can tell
Greek gods derive their power from their specific domains, not simply by choice. While Poseidon, for instance, can create horses, his unmatched power lies in the sea, just as Zeus’s lies in the sky. These domains amplify their abilities, making them far stronger within their realms.
As a Titan, Prometheus lacks such divine authority over any natural element beyond fire and creation. His Sea Curses are inherently weaker because, unlike Poseidon, he doesn’t command the power of the sea. The gods’ primary strength is inseparable from their domains, and without that cosmic connection, Prometheus’s curses simply lack potency.
From what I’ve heard, this is just objectively wrong. In the creation myth I’ve read the gods individually claimed the different domains, instead of having some sort of inherent right to them. It’s less of authority and more of a job, Poseidon protects the sea, Zeus delivers judgement from the sky, Helios totes totes the sun, and hades is warden of the underworld. Any of the other gods could take their job if necessary, but they don’t as they already have their own job, and the god is doing a perfectly fine job at theirs
This is also why the gods simply spontaneously became the gods of new things as they were invented, such as music and war. Somebody needed to manage this new aspect of reality
Granted, Greek myths vary wildly from different sources, so this could just be conflicting info. Regardless, a source would be nice.
Curses are physical manifestation of magic,
Which was keeped away from humanity
before Prometheus released it all over the world.
Prometheus didnt ‘created’ them.
He just released them to a world.
Since Prometheus has hecate’s authority at that point, he could’ve able to allow humans to use curses perfectly.
Greek gods didn’t just pick random jobs; their powers and domains were deeply tied. Zeus doesn’t just “judge from the sky”; he controls lightning and storms, which amplify his power as god of the heavens. Similarly, Poseidon doesn’t just “protect” the sea he commands it, along with storms and earthquakes, which are inseparable from his role.
Hesiod’s Theogony shows that after the Titans were defeated, the gods divided the cosmos. This wasn’t random; each god’s domain reinforced their power.
The Iliad (Book 15) mentions Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades drawing lots to claim the heavens, sea, and underworld. Each realm strengthened their powers, and swapping domains would weaken them.
While gods like Apollo gained new areas, these aligned with existing traits rather than entirely new powers. Prometheus, with no domain over natural elements, simply can’t make Sea Curses as powerful as Poseidon could.
I’m going off of the original creation myth, in which the different gods aren’t assigned their domains but instead debate and claim sections of the world.
Granted, I just remembered vetex doesn’t actually follow Greek mythology to the letter and it’s clearly stated gods did have inherent authority in the lore doc, so uhhh fuck me I guess
Welp
where tide curse but fire
fide curse
That why they’re called the Grand Fire Curses
didn’t prometheus do this with the grand fire curses though
ofc a grand death curse or whatever created by thanatos would be stronger than one made by prometheus, but then his fire curses would also be weaker than ones made by prometheus. you say that since prometheus only has dominion over fire that all his other curses are weaker, but wouldn’t this apply to every other god and titan as well? also at this point prometheus has hecate’s domain over magic anyway, which could possibly alleviate this issue
I see the truth and reasoning in this idea, but shortly before the creation of Sea Curses, an unknown entity imbued Prometheus with the ability to manipulate Magic.
Technically, if they wanted to, they could have forced Hecate to make the Sea Curses instead.
Yes it would apply. Unless you have dominion over water like lets say Poseidon, Oceanus, Pontus, etc., then of course if your Hephaestus then your tide curse will not nearly be as strong as Poseidon’s.
then curses aren’t weak because specifically prometheus created them, every other god would have the same issue just with a different element that they’re good at
I do NOT understand what you are trying to state, so I’m going to restate my point: The sea curses aren’t “weak” obviously, but they would be less powerful in general if its not your domain. The tide curse made by prometheus would not be nearly as powerful if poseidon made one instead because its not prometheus’s elemental domain.
Prometheus got specialization in magic, and then he made magic-based curses.
Growth Curse was probably made by some plant god.
Small issue, Poseidon wanted gifted cursebeard the tide curse, why wouldn’t he just make it himself if he really wanted to help?
