it’s the first chapter of my oc lore yippeeeeee!!
this one isn’t all too special, it’s more of a hook than a chapter, but it’s kinda needed to introduce the mc a teensy bit, changes from the original ao universe, etc.

Chapter 1
~Sage Frost~
Living a seemingly normal life isn’t quite easy after assassinating a king.
My back still ached from the fight against Calvus. I flexed my wrist and clasped it; Burns and blisters covered my forearm. I couldn’t quite get onto the floor without pain erupting in my arm.
I rolled off my bed in an attempt to get up. At this time, there was a debate between two or three sailors about who had the most interesting Dark Sea expedition. I slowly walked down into the tavern, dragging my healing legs down to the tavern.
“I bet none o’you ever beat a mutated Poison Jaws before!” yelled a gruff-voiced male sailor with greying brown hair.
“Yur right!” claimed another sailor with a voice as oily as his black hair. “I beat a mutated WHITE EYES!”
“That be bull!” interjected a female sailor with brown hair and an eyepatch. “The White Eyes there be impossible to kill! They got flesh o’ steel!”
“O’ course you wouldn’t know, ye strumpet!” the black-haired sailor yelled back. “What d’you have to claim? You look like you wouldn’t hurt a fly!”
“Try me, ye scurvy bilge rat!” the female sailor hollered, holding up a flintlock and an orb of bubbling magma.
“OI!” yelled Damon, the owner of the Sailor’s Lodge. “Take it to Munera!”
I silently slid onto one of the barstools. Fights weren’t rare in the Sailor’s Lodge. Most pirates come with a gigantically fragile ego and would do anything to prove their worth to other doubting sailors. Honestly, I didn’t really get the concept of boasting your findings. There’s so much interest in the Dark Sea, and using your findings for popularity is a huge waste in my opinion. There are atlanteans - lost sailors fused with sea life - sharks mutated to double its size, and magic-infused weather, and no one was studying it?
“What can I get for ya, lad?” Damon asked, wiping the inside of a glass and handing me a menu. I scanned each breakfast dish until I found one I liked.
“Breakfast Crab Cakes, please,” I asked.
“Comin’ up,” Damon said.
Damon was probably the only person at the Sailor’s Lodge who actually acknowledged my existence. He was a really friendly, yet oblivious, guy - He didn’t care that I arrived at the lodge covered in scalds and bruises. He didn’t mind that I never left. And he never cared that I appeared the morning after the night the King of Ravenna died. He only cared that I was in need of hospitality and shelter. I liked him for that.
“You seem to be a fan of seafood,” Damon quipped, handing me a platter of small golden-brown crab cakes. “Say, you seem to have a good set o’ guns.” He gestured to my arms.
“…Thanks?” I said.
“You’d make a load o’ Galleons if ya get into competitive fightin’!” Damon said.
I thought for a second.
“I’ll be fine,” I finally said. I left without another word. It felt a bit mean, but I had no choice. It was already quite a close call trying to escape the Bronze Legion… If I brought publicity to myself, I would be captured in no time. I shuddered at the memory of the escape and went to the piers.
The outside of the lodge was more peaceful than the tavern. The cold, refreshing, sea breeze winded through the bustling crowd of lively sailors and merchants. The scent of fresh fish and ripe fruit was in the air, giving a light, calming mood to the lodge. Along the pier, the three arguing pirates continued their fight, trying not to pelt each other with bullets and magic. On days like these, I would have no problem fishing on the dockside and selling any fish I hadn’t studied yet to the fishmonger - It was the only way I could pay for my lodge room rent, anyway. Around the side of the lodge, there was a huge crowd of sailors, holding up bags of Galleons. I spotted a woman reading an Agora article with her face ridden with interest.
“Excuse me?” I asked her. “What’s the crowd about?”
“There’s an article about King Calvus’s assassination,” She said. “Apparently there might’ve been a fourth assassin,”
My eyes widened. How did they know? I thought I was the only one who successfully ran from the scene…
“May I take a look, please?” I asked. The woman handed me the article.

A FOURTH KILLER?
A week ago, King Calvus Caesar IV had been assassinated by three individuals - one of which being the late Prince of Winterveil: Neviro Boreas. However, upon further investigation, experts have deducted that there could’ve been a fourth assassin. General Marcus Julian, one of the king’s most trusted generals and the first witness of Caesar’s corpse has helped with giving description to the scene.
“On the throne room carpets, there were water stains and melting ice. The King’s head was covered in blood and had a huge dent around his right temple, as if he got hit with a huge hammer.” Julian stated the day after the attack.
This information, however, does not align with the arsenals of any of the assassins. Their abilities included; the Death Curse, Flare Magic, and spearmanship. Although, these abilities do lead experts to believe local hero; Sage Frost to be a possible suspect. This man has been mostly seen around the north of the Bronze Sea, with the latest sighting being south to Cirrus Island according to Mayor Owen of Frostmill. The Grand Navy are currently sending teams to Cirrus Island to look for clues while initiating a manhunt on Sage Frost with a possible bounty reward of 50 million Galleons.
Right under the first few paragraphs were what seemed to be an outdated picture of me. It showed me with shaggy, long, cyan hair and a black bandana. Right after the assassination, I’d dyed my hair into a natural dark brown and cut it into a shorter style. It was a good thing I did, as I wouldn’t stand a chance against the multiple pirates here…
“I don’t know why a hero like him would do such a thing!” The woman said. “He purified Redwake’s waters and saved Frostmill from being melted away! Such a good heart can’t just murder a king!”
“Is this whole paper about the assassination?” I asked. “I’m a bit… interested.”
“Yes, it is,” The woman said. I glanced at the crowd in front of me, all shoving their Galleons towards a man with a tuxedo and a tophat, holding stacks of Agora papers. “Buy it off me,” She said. “I read the whole thing,”
I hastily gave her a few Galleons and took the paper. “Thanks,” I said.
It wouldn’t be long before I was caught. I ran for the docks while reading a snippet of the next paragraph.
Newly appointed King Revon Caesar of Ravenna held a press conference yesterday regarding moving on from Calvus’s death and his changes to Ravenna (More information on this conference will be talked about in tomorrow’s paper). Sir Gaius, a venerated knight of Ravenna, asked the King about how he responds to Frost’s attack.
“I’m not sure what I can say about this attack, Gaius,” King Revon said. “But I have a question for Sage Frost, if he’s still out there: If you’re really the fourth assassin, what makes a local hero like you want to kill my brother?”
- Yes
- No
- I already am =D (certified cool kid)
