Selling junk: a guide

This is a small guide for selling your JUNK in arcane odyssey so that your computer doesn’t have a stroke every time you open your inventory. Selling all the junk in your inventory is necessary, and it’s something you should do every few months, like showering.

What is junk? Look out for:
poor amulets, unmodified amulets
gems
useless armors
drowned armors/accessories
unmodified armors

What can be good to keep?:
armors with certain modifiers (blasted, crystalline, frozen)
cool vanity drip
things other people would want, if youre a mage, people may want to buy your modified juggernaut pieces for example
things youll need later

How I sell is by going to a populated merchant area, such as Redwake, Frostmill, or Palo Town. These places have a ton of NPCs to sell to. I start with every category, sort by lowest level, start with the lowest rarity, and then move up in rarities when there’s nothing left to sell.

Accessories/Armors:
Common:
the purest form of trash lives here. unmodified armor pieces and just totally useless stuff. the only thing you maybe dont want to sell here is cool vanity armor pieces

Uncommon:
modified common pieces appear here, but are also mostly useless. be careful not to sell dark sea armors like dark iron and siren tops

Rare:
modified uncommon armor pieces, which might be good, but still most of them were totally useless junk. this is the natural habitat of sunkens, so be wary. also lots of useful dark sea armors

Exotic:
Pretty much everything here is stuff you enchanted yourself and use often. BUT there is useless enchanted/modified oracle armor pieces that live here. kill them all

Legendary:
reserved exclusively for enchanted rear admiral amelia’s cloak, which is pretty good. obviously dont sell it to an NPC

Weapons:
Common:
old weapons are totally useless, maybe keep some bronze weapons (bronze musket/flintlocks) but nothing else here is really useful. i did keep the funny clubs though

Uncommon:
didnt sell anything, all uncommon weapons are good

Rare: boss weapons and still, good weapons. sunkens swords and staffs live here

Exotic: no

Legendary: maybe in the future

Tools/Potions:
didnt sell anything here, not even that much items, simply unnecessary. you never know when youll need that 1 potion

Items:
Common:
ALL. ALL of those crap gems that serve 0 purpose in your inventory, they gotta go (and also are worth $$$). but do not sell your reagents, not even bones. they are useful for crafting gems with, and later selling those gems. people also buy reagents in bulk for good money

Uncommon:
more useless gems (free money) unopened fort castrum chests live here, you can likely sell them for thousands in market instead

Rare:
this is where it gets tricky. yes, tons of crappy gems for the culling,
but also:

rare-tier enchants you might not wanna sell, or maybe you do,
fighting style/mage scrolls,
cannon balls, the good kind, the rare explody ones,
ship artifacts,
normal rare gems, its not a good idea to sell these, people could buy them from you, and you can craft rare gems with bones to sell later,
fort castrum rare unredeemed chests, like blasted golden can be worth a lot in the market

Exotic:
one of the most dangerous zones. this is the natural habitat of exotic scrolls, exotic gems, and rare regeants. but crappy pre-crafted exotic gems still exist, easy monis

Legendary:
lots of crappy gems, but also lots of useful gems you crafted will be here.
also the natural habitat of the humble acrimony and legendary fish scales

Food:
i did not sell any food, food will always be useful. and people can pay you well for bulk ingredients

Hulls, Cannons, sailcloths, rams, attachments, figureheads, lanterns:
all are so tiny and barely have anything to sell its not even worth selling

Sails:
for sails, rarity doesnt matter, theyre all the same. you can keep 1 copy of certain sails you really like, and dye them later in other colors
but…despite me having a massive amount of sails. i didnt sell anything. its like a precious collection ive built since i started the game. its too personal, too sacred

starting gals: 111,422
end gals: 266,160
total profit: 154,738 dollars

NPCs made broke: ~10

overall, you should sell everything because items are evil and will slow down your game/load times. dont be a hoarder

nah, people might buy it

basil herbs (and rock salts) are useless, i tested and the ones that give stat buffs to a specific type is just way better

no :face_with_hand_over_mouth: i wanna keep my items from wom. the last time i “cleaned” my inventory was in wom. NOTHING will ever stop me from being a hoarder… on my main

peak guide will use for my other slots :+1:

The more shit in my inventory the less likely ill get a shitty trade for my headless

i used to be like this, until my inventory got so bad it froze me for like 1 minute each time i opened it, it drove me nuts. so now im an avid inventory seller advocate

isn’t drowned just archaic but better though

i dont think if things have changed, but:

drowned is extremely common
it sucks

idk if people even use it
oh and its ugly

i have made a brig’s worth of galleons from just selling the shitty gems i get from chests

I was able to buy a sunken iron chestplate with the sheer amount of trash I sold a few weeks ago. My game nearly crashed, but worth it. anyway w guide

Does having a large inventory actually slow your game? I know it makes the loading times for every menu really long, but I never knew it affecfed game performance hahah

does it slow your game? not really, but when you open your inventory it can freeze your game for a fat minute, longer if you have a really big inventory.

also, players with extremely big inventories that join a server can cause a temporary lag spike in that moment. if youre doing something important, like reeling in a golden shark, you could lose it due to that

on the bright side, ever since they removed all regents and jewels from your backpack (~ key), it doesnt lag anymore upon opening it, at least for me

misinformation

It took me an hour to realise: You shower every few months???

We’re AO players, we’re allergic to hygiene

its so overrated. the meta is letting your body toughen up on its own

Just cuz I want to, when I sift through junk (namely common/uncommon non-modded gear), I look for the one “stack” that might have 43x Wizard Robes, and keep that one at least, but sell any outside of that.

Still, my hoarder mindset screams to me every second I’m selecting items: what if your deckhands need this later!!??!!? ok man shut up; unless deckhands get some drastic loyalty change I’ll just worry about this later; besides I’m already keeping a good portion.
