Proposal
You should be able to set your spawn island freely in any sea you have completed the story for. This would only let you set your spawn on islands that are inhabited- so for the Bronze Sea this would be Redwake, Frostmill, Palo Town, Whitesummit (exclusive to criminals/AS), Silverhold (exclusive to Gravy), Cirrus Island, Shell Island, Sailor’s Lodge, and Ravenna.
Details/background on your proposal
With this change, you add a new type of shop NPC to every island- an Innkeeper NPC. Their overhead icon would be a bed. When talking to these NPCs, they offer you to set your spawn on that inhabited island for a fee of Galleons. Depending on the island, this fee is larger or smaller.
For example, setting your spawn on Palo Town and Cirrus Island would be more expensive- Palo because it’s central and Cirrus because of its easy access to resource nodes and also being somewhat central. Redwake and Ravenna, on the other hand, would be cheaper because they’re on the far ends of the Bronze Sea. If you are in an NPC clan, you can set your spawn to the related island for free (so Gravy gets free respawn locations at Silverhold and AS gets it free at Whitesummit)
In the future, the Kingdom Alignment system could also slightly interact with this- if you have a negative reputation with an island you could be paying a different NPC on the same island which would slightly change your spawn point on that island (you wouldn’t be spending the night in a regular inn on an island that hates you, would you?)
The only exception to this spawn rule is if you have cargo loaded in your cargo hold. If you have any cargo in the hold, you will still spawn at the border for the sea you’re going to. This is to prevent making cargo runs trivial between seas.
Reason to add/change
This has been suggested before, but not for a while- I’m bringing it back now since it’s incredibly relevant due to one thing: the Nimbus Sea Border. As it stands right now, it is very easy to camp the border and wait for people to gank because literally everyone spawns in the same place at the border (whereas at least when everyone was spawning on Ravenna there was some space to run or fight back)
With this change, waiting on the border like this becomes much less incentivized since not everybody who joins your Bronze Sea server will spawn at the border for an easy gank- in other words, the game’s toxicity will be reduced alongside this quality of life change.
This in combination with also spreading out where ships spawn along the border would make it more bearable to go from sea to sea without constantly having to worry about getting ganked as you load in.
