Proposal

You should be able to set your spawn island freely in any sea you have completed the story for. This would only let you set your spawn on islands that are inhabited- so for the Bronze Sea this would be Redwake, Frostmill, Palo Town, Whitesummit (exclusive to criminals/AS), Silverhold (exclusive to Gravy), Cirrus Island, Shell Island, Sailor’s Lodge, and Ravenna.

Details/background on your proposal

With this change, you add a new type of shop NPC to every island- an Innkeeper NPC. Their overhead icon would be a bed. When talking to these NPCs, they offer you to set your spawn on that inhabited island for a fee of Galleons. Depending on the island, this fee is larger or smaller.

For example, setting your spawn on Palo Town and Cirrus Island would be more expensive- Palo because it’s central and Cirrus because of its easy access to resource nodes and also being somewhat central. Redwake and Ravenna, on the other hand, would be cheaper because they’re on the far ends of the Bronze Sea. If you are in an NPC clan, you can set your spawn to the related island for free (so Gravy gets free respawn locations at Silverhold and AS gets it free at Whitesummit)

In the future, the Kingdom Alignment system could also slightly interact with this- if you have a negative reputation with an island you could be paying a different NPC on the same island which would slightly change your spawn point on that island (you wouldn’t be spending the night in a regular inn on an island that hates you, would you?)

The only exception to this spawn rule is if you have cargo loaded in your cargo hold. If you have any cargo in the hold, you will still spawn at the border for the sea you’re going to. This is to prevent making cargo runs trivial between seas.

Reason to add/change

This has been suggested before, but not for a while- I’m bringing it back now since it’s incredibly relevant due to one thing: the Nimbus Sea Border. As it stands right now, it is very easy to camp the border and wait for people to gank because literally everyone spawns in the same place at the border (whereas at least when everyone was spawning on Ravenna there was some space to run or fight back)

With this change, waiting on the border like this becomes much less incentivized since not everybody who joins your Bronze Sea server will spawn at the border for an easy gank- in other words, the game’s toxicity will be reduced alongside this quality of life change.

This in combination with also spreading out where ships spawn along the border would make it more bearable to go from sea to sea without constantly having to worry about getting ganked as you load in.

i think this should only apply if you finish the main storyline in that sea. also this feature should not bypass set spawns by the story. ignoring the fact that you can set spawns in the brig, yeah i can see this feature being a thing; or just have the default spawn point in the bronze sea being set back to ravenna instead of the border. in short, this suggestion is fine enough but i dont see enough use of it outside of countering the bronze sea border ganks problem

Not to mention the bottom right corner of the map is just about the dullest section of the map available, the first thing you do every time you join a server is literally just sail upwards to where some of the content is.

it’d help save ALOT of time, doesn’t have to be every island and the islands that do got houses already got alot of empty ones, doesn’t make sense for you to last be at some island than when you rejoin you’re docked near othrys, so we don’t have to worry about whether this has to make sense too, your character can just do the travelling off-screen before going to sleep at the or on your ship (would be cool to set spawn anywhere and just go where you ship last was when rejoining)

that’s already mentioned in the suggestion, this would only apply AFTER you’ve completed the story of that sea

Its really annoying having to sail from Mount Othrys all the way to actual civilization every time I go to the Bronze Sea. If this was added I would set my spawn to Sailor’s Lodge since it is right near Ravenna but also close to other cities as well.

I am so done with having to sail up every time.

No reason to be not added
Gameplay is just a gameplay

God yes please
this would make travel so much easier

It also sucks that Grand Navy and AS no longer spawn in their repsective islands :frowning:

this would be nice, but it’d also be nice if you could just spawn where you last were in game

Hell yeah

i feel like spawning where you last were could be abusable to spawn on top of someone and gank them, this already happens in Runescape (where you can change servers without changing your location on the game map to spawn under someone and attack)

it would also just be easier to code to have specific spawn islands, i’d assume

The only issue i could see is using it to teleport rather than sail but i assume you would have to pay to set your spawn there? would definitely lower spawn camping (some spots are more popular though)

This kinda sounds like the tavern ideas (redwake and sailors lodge already have one)

Seeing Inns(a staple of RPGs) and all the usefulness they bring coming to AO would be great.

already mentioned in the post that you’d have to pay to set your spawn somewhere, and it might also be worthwhile to have a cooldown on that? i didn’t mention it in the suggestion itself but vetex could definitely add it

this would just be a general timesaver itd be really good. Also would be nice for avoiding ganks which is pretty much impossible to do now (once literally the second my game started loading in I saw “Your Brig is being attacked by [the guys name]!” on my screen, that shouldnt be a thing that can happen

gah that’s terrifying had no idea people did that

whoops mb
