Proposal
Have you ever played pokemon sword and shield?
then you should essentially already know what this suggestion is.
if not, here’s a brief explanation.
In sw/sh, players were able to interact with specific trees that allowed them to be shooken by the player. When a tree was shaken, it would drop berries, items, and even cause pokemon encounters. Essentially, I want to add a feature like this to AO, since it would be a nicer way to farm fruits easier, and possibly add new mechanics like special ingredients or other new materials obtained via this way.
Reason to add/change
So what actually inspired me to make this post was while I was doing the collecting sky apples quest on Cirrus island. I found it pretty annoying how I had to wait for things to spawn and I couldn’t just shake or agitate the trees in the area to drop apples faster, which was the basic spark-plug to my idea.
I think the main reason why I want to add this is simply because there aren’t that many great ways to farm special types of fruits and also because it would be cool to give trees a more interesting mechanic outside of just being large decorational items that occasionally need to be broken to prove your worth to an ex-assassin or provide materials for a pumpkin con artist and whatnot.
How can we implement this?
I have a few ideas for how this tree shaking mechanic can be applied to trees currently existing in AO.
-We copy sw/sh and make it so that players can only interact with special trees that have a “shake” or “agitate” prompt, these trees would drop berries and fruits and occasionally rarer items. They would also go on cooldown after being significantly shooken, just like sw/sh. (to prevent making farming too easy)
-We somehow make, every single tree shakeable/triggerable, via attacking them, or doing some other action that allows players to physically move the tree back and forth (similar to sw/sh) and allow items to fall down.
Conclusion
So basically I want to add a pokemon mechanic into AO that adds some more interesting interactions between players and trees.
This could possibly also be applied to things like bushes, or other forms of foliage.
Only issue I see with this potentially is the fact that it might sort of be useless and not exactly that cool/special but I would personally love a mechanic like this in game.
