Add specific types of meat to sea creatures’ loot pools

Marine animals meat would be a new food source, acting like fish, but also rewarding the player for hunting sea creatures. When cooked, they give some food, though shark meat from sharks that also have a variant caught from fishing restore less hunger.

How does it function?

When you kill any such creature, the meat would come as a drop. Seeing their size, I think it’s reasonable for them to have a high chance of dropping at least one piece of meat. Depending on the creature’s size, the meat would give more food. It would also have a decent sell value. Just like fish, they’d have a rot timer.
Shark meat

  • Shark meat - Common, dropped by sharks, 75% chance to drop one, 50% to drop two, 33% to drop three. When cooked, restores 20 hunger and gives the recovery effect. Sells for 30 galleons (?).
  • Tiger shark meat - Uncommon, dropped by tiger sharks, 70% chance to drop one, 45% to drop two, 30% to drop three. When cooked, restores 30 hunger and gives the recovery effect. Sells for 50 galleons (?).
  • Great white shark meat - Uncomon, dropped by great white sharks, 70% to drop one, 45% to drop two, 30% to drop three. When cooked, restores 35 hunger and gives the recovery effect. Sells for 60 galleons (?).
  • Lurker meat - Uncommon, dropped by lurkers, 70% to drop one, 45% to drop two, 30% to drop three. When cooked, restores 30 hunger and gives the recovery effect. Sells for 50 galleons (?).
  • Megalodon meat - Uncommon, dropped by megalodons, 80% chance to drop one, 55% to drop two, 40% to drop three, 25% to drop four. When cooked, restores 50 hunger and gives the recovery effect. Sells for 100 galleons (?).

Whale meat

  • Cachalot meat - Common, dropped by cachalots, 75% chance to drop one, 50% to drop two, 33% to drop three. When cooked, restores 30 hunger and gives the recovery effect. Sells for 50 galleons (?).
  • Great blue whale meat - Uncommon, dropped by great blue whales, 80% chance to drop one, 55% to drop two, 40% to drop three, 25% to drop four. When cooked, restores 50 hunger and gives the recovery effect. Sells for 100 galleons (?).

Sea monster meat

  • Poison jaws meat - Rare, dropped by poison jaws, 70% chance to drop one, 40% to drop two. When cooked, restores 30 hunger and gives the recovery effect as well as the agile effect. Sells for 60 galleons (?).
  • White eyes meat - Rare, dropped by white eyes, 80% chance to drop one, 55% to drop two, 40% to drop three, 25% to drop four. When cooked, restores 80 hunger and gives the recovery effect as well as the ironskin effect. Sells for 200 galleons (?).
  • Obolus meat - Rare, dropped by obolus, 80% chance to drop one, 55% to drop two, 40% to drop three, 25% to drop four. When cooked, restores 70 hunger and gives the recovery effect as well as the invisibility effect. Sells for 180 galleons (?).

Note that the sea monsters’ effects will have the same tier as the recovery effect. The secondary effects also last much shorter than recovery, I think that them lasting 10% of the other effect’s duration, capping at 3 minutes, is fair, as to not give the player 2 hours of invisibility, agility or ironskin V. 2 minutes may seem a little, but since it will always be a big meal, it adds up to 15 minutes. Creatures spawned by bleeding potions have half the odds of giving the meat and are unable to drop the highest amount, to keep farming as inefficient as possible.

Reason to add

I think that sea creatures just don’t have enough drops, or that those aren’t interesting enough. Sure, whale blubber is used for gels that are indeed good, shark teeth are used for bleeding potions to spawn more sharks, and the scales are decent, but I think that there should be more drops, especially since the Agora describes the monsters’ corpses being as large as islands.

tonight we eat the fodder

I’m a casual player so I don’t really have much a reason to hunt sea monsters, but I’m going to go chef when professions drop so this might actually give me an incentive to hunt sea monsters.

today, we will consume the sea

Minecraft: “Nooo, we can’t add sharks to the game! It might incentivize shark hunting, which is illegal and further endangers shark species!”

Arcane Odyssey:

But on a serious note, sharks, whales, and sea monsters should have their drops buffed in some way since there’s little reason for players to go out of their way to hunt them other than for potion ingredients. Being able to cook and eat your catch could be a good way to both encourage hunting and add immersion, which Vetex likes.

I always wanted cooking to be more complicated or having more various recipes, this will be good for that

people after killing aplha white eyes be like:

make it have like 10 seconds of revealing II

Not a bad idea, honestly, I normally want to stay as consistent but seeing how much of a pain lurkers are, I think a short-lasting effect with recovery would be good.

time to never eat this

time to drive Obolus to extinction.

bro it’s already rare

Fun fact about eating whales: Whale skin and blubber (also narwhals) is eaten raw by the Inuit (called Muktuk). Not necessarily saying that whale blubber should be edible, but it would be a funny addition…

Good suggestion though. Not much else to say, I agree that adding more food types would be fun.

Ironskin from White eyes is more of a placeholder really, I want all of them to have a more fitting effect
Besides, ironskin from the meat can be easily made into ironskin IV with a sky pumpkin and ironskin V with a sun caraway after that

Perhaps eating White Eyes Meat can provide a boost in Power, just like with White Eyes Scales in potion brewing?

Personally not that exciting of a suggestion but very well thought out and reasonable

They feel a little underpowered, but it’s a nice immersion feature and a fun reward for hunting sharks.

On the bright side we can finally enjoy meat after eating too much fruit, mushroom and fishes but on the other hand we would probably get a severe dose of mercury poisoning

but fr though I think having meat in the game also makes the food and ingame activities diverse

Magic energy consuming frfr
But actually we’re doing it already with sky fruits and golden things and fishes

Sky fruits and golden things are already mutated into something due to magic energy
and they actually taste BETTER
Why dont we eat sea monsters :hungry: :hungry:
