I don’t mind critiques and pointing out flaws.

Also there doesn’t seem to be any genuine aggro skill, so here we go.
(I highly based this on Roar of Glory btw)

Description:

Challenge of Determination

The user bangs their shield, releasing energy blocking incoming projectiles, grabbing the attention of nearby opponents, challenging them in a battle of determination, temporarily increasing the user’s blocking power and resistance, as well as decreasing the user’s stamina usage when blocking.

Mechanism:

Once the skill is active, it’ll block incoming projectiles during its casting animation, aggro enemies within a certain radius, and make affected enemies focus their attention solely on the user, no matter what. Even if a different player highly damages the affected enemies, they will not switch aggro to anyone other than the user.

The skill also increases the user’s blocking power + resistance and decreases the stamina usage when blocking. As for the exact amount/percentage, I’ll leave it up to you all and/or the devs.

The skill will have a cooldown to possibly prevent abuse. As for the cooldown duration, I’ll also leave it up to you all and/or the devs.

In the case of multiple people activating the skill, the enemies will be aggro’d to the first/fastest one to activate, ignoring the others.

Visuals:

When you activate the skill, you will bang your shield,

skeleton-banging-shield

then you roar,

and while roaring, a LONG pillar of light will come out from your body.

After that, you emit aura for the duration of the effect.

To avoid blocking the screen, the aura’s size and transparency will be like this:

Again, if you have any thoughts or opinions, feel free to share in reply.

Visual effects are a bit much, I prefer Vesteria’s Taunt skill which just has you raise your shield and an aura bursts out

Blocking incoming projectiles is too much, as a lot of the game’s moves are projectiles.

Increasing blocking power is perfectly fine, Vesteria also has enemies in range temporarily take more damage but I don’t know if that could be pulled off in AO well.

In place of stamina boost, I’d personally add a resistance effect, so this is really blocking-focused.

The blocking projectile part is during the activation process, based of Roar of Glory. After the process is done and you can move again, you no longer block projectiles automatically.

Other than that, interesting :+1:

A good idea for party players, will surely help. However, the stamina changes may assist running away from a fight, which isn’t great. Need to do something to prevent those cowards from using the move to save themselves.

Maybe, just slow down stamina’s usage when blocking only, increase blocking power (like you said) and regen a small bit of hp?

Also, (bang) (bang) (bang) RAAAHHHH!

I believe blocking incoming projectiles isn’t too much for a shield, because really, what else are shields used for in this game? It would actually encourage people to use shields for moves, which remain virtually unheard of in any weapon build. Also, depending on the cooldown, and the speed of those projectiles, I doubt that blocking projectiles would become a major issue.

Ever heard of blocking? The action that reduces damage from all attacks?

Fortunately, it only does that on cast animation. Otherwise, it’s literally just a fuck you to primarily ranged classes, mainly mage, oracle and paladin.

I’m not saying shields are useless, I’m saying shields are rather underused by the intended users of those shields, primarily weapons users.

And the way to solve that isn’t by making them a tool that is uncounterable to a large portion of the players

The way I see it, it’s more of an extended parry that has a rather high cooldown, which I believe should balance it out. I wouldn’t say uncounterable, if anything there’s a chance it can backfire, because you could just hold your attack during the casting animation and hit them with a beefed up attack.

thats an taunt skill from some kind of mmorpg game,
yet i’d be neat to see more team support stuff in ao
