As of now, Shields don’t have any skills that you would use a shield for, which is a shame. This skill aims to fix that. And yes, I know there’s a currently unused shield skill that will likely be similar to this (no I don’t remember the name of it), so this could be used to give ideas as to how it would function!

Deflect is a skill with a long recharge that, in a very breif window (less than a second), allows the user to deflect fired projectiles back at opponents, returning to them at twice the speed, and are properly re-aimed towards the originator. However, this skill would require a very high Weapons stat.

Deflecting a projectile avoids all damage it would have dealt, but still removes durability from the shield.

Deflectable projectiles include but are not limited to:

  • Magic Blasts
  • Beams
  • Thrown Weapons
  • Bullets
  • Arrows
  • Cannonballs (also from ships maybe??)
  • Pulsars (the core, not the surrounding blasts)
  • Fighting Style Shots
  • Magic M1s

You can also Deflect melee and other close-range attacks, which stun the attacker for around half a second. Again, this negates all damage, but still drains durability.

Deflectable melee/close-range attacks include but are not limited to:

  • Melee weapon M1s
  • Fighting Style M1s
  • Melee grabs (like Rushdown)
  • Crash
  • Smash (if you catch the player mid-drop)

Attacks that can’t be Deflected are usually AoE, which include but are not limited to:

  • Explosion
  • Selino
  • Snare

Should make it so it has to be aimed at said projectile and if you just cover yourself with the shield you can block stuff like explosions.

Why should you take damage? You are redirecting the projectile so it didn’t even hit you.

Due to the small window you actually have to deflect the attack I thought it’d be needlessly difficult to also aim it back at them, but yeah that’d make more sense. Also it doesn’t fully negate damage since I wanted it to not just be strictly better than parrying, despite the long cooldown

Love this

Thanks!!

Edit: Deflect now negates all damage from applicable attacks.

Deflecting used to still make the user take blocked damage and drained extra durability than blocking normally.
