So I kind of had a shower thought about how on wind magic which has a knockback effect, since you can change your blast shape to swords and slashes, shouldn’t it apply bleed rather than knockback? Then I thought about how it would make sense for solid magics like metal or semi-solid like sand to apply knockback on a shield or hand-shaped blasts.
Do you guys think this would break the game balance?
The only reason I’d like this is cuz immersion
There is the option to remove the standard modifiers e.g. wind slash no longer has knockback
I don’t really get why this would be immersion, as while it might resemble a slash it would be far too wide with the way the blast shape is right now to cut, not to mention it doesn’t have any sort of solid mass to actually cut with. Compressed air pushes no matter how hard it is compressed, since decompression causes it to decompress in every possible direction.
What I mean by this is, no matter wind’s shape it would always have knockback in an immersive world because wind by virtue of just being moving air fundamentally can’t cut anything, as it lacks any sort of mass or cutting edge.
And finally, to quote Vetex when people asked for high tier wind magic to cause bleeding in AA,
“I don’t think people start bleeding when they step out into a windstorm”
technically, force strong enough to push you back concentrated on a single line/point is def enough to cut/puncture. a stream of air IS capable of cutting It’s just not very long range because it will as you say decompress and go back to being just air very quickly, but if we want that sort of realism that bad then slash shaped air blasts shouldn’t even work in the first place because it reverts back to a normal blast 3 meters after it is cast.
your windstorm comparison is fundamentally flawed because while powerful the force is being applied to your entire body rather than a bunch of concentrated points
And even assuming you are correct, what about water? sand? Ice? there are plenty of reasons why this might not be a good implementation but yours is simply not one of them and is just nitpicking to nitpick
