possibly late but ultimately i think how much you enjoy the game (in the long-run) will depend on how much you can tolerate the open world pvp and permadeath
i hid it so the post wouldnt be massive because i wrote alot
the stuff i wrote (alot)
First deepwoken is definitely a well-made game and has more than enough very fun content in it to justify the 5 dollars/400 robux you need to pay for it
With that being said the permadeath is controversial even for a rogue-like and I believe there’s merit to those complaints. When you die permanently (called wiping by the playerbase, only happens when you die in The Depths) you get a certain amount of echoes depending on how much you achieved which lets you buy permanent upgrades for all future characters (nothing that could help in pvp though so dont worry about that)
So essentially, with each lost run what you gain is echoes and knowledge/experience that’ll help you go farther next time
the reason it’s controversial I believe is because for many that isn’t enough to justify it’s existence. Even with echoes as a mechanic it just seems slapped into the game to alot of people, and I don’t exactly blame them (even though i personally think the permadeath is alright, it could be better). Though the game is designed with an open-world, lack of main objectives, and possibility for long-term characters all in mind so what they can do with it is a bit limited
With that being said I think Deepwoken is genuinely one of the most well-made games on roblox and can be very fun once you start getting the hang of it (which didnt take me too long, its mainly getting used to the combat). There’s alot of experimentation you can do with builds with all the options you have and I find that just trying out new things is a fun part of the game. If you have friends to play it with that always makes it more fun
Another issue is has though is how hard it is to figure things out blindly. Beyond the core gameplay it’ll be really hard to find a lot of stuff… You will need the wiki (if you want to just browse the wiki for stuff you might like to do/see at any point feel free to just because of this. I really wish it wasnt like that but oh well)
Personally the most fun part of deepwoken for me was exploring and doing everything for the first time that was really fun (+ going from being scared of something to knowing exactly how to deal with it is fun too, thats one bonus the permadeath has i suppose)
If you dont want the chance of getting ganked, there’s always small servers, though itll probably require playing in a different region if its not late at night (ping compensation in settings will help). dont feel bad if you do this btw it doesnt matter how you wanna play at all
overall deepwoken is a good game but the permadeath is something to keep in mind since its enough to drive some people away, if you think you’d probably be fine with it all then I’d definitely say buy it
im sorry for writing alot i just have alot to say and couldnt condense it
