After playing mage for 400 hours, I’ve come to the conclusion: Mage just sucks (Specificly fire mage)
I’ve discovered lots of tiny little irritations that make the mage playing experence overall less enjoyable (Such as basicly being a free target for bounty hunters due to the ocean). Alot of mage players I know eather have switched off because it was boring, or switched off because it was mid.
Heres some reasons why I’ve become a bit salty about mage:
I can’t farm for jellyfish skin for potions
I can’t bounty hunt properly (Unless I am somehow able to out-weapon the weapons user or the rushdown class)
Shift-to-dash makes it so my energy is constantly at 0 (Keyboard does not like me pressing the same button rapidly)
Barely any unique planned content for mage (We get uh… 3rd magic, Primordial spells [not confirmed to be mage-only], and bigger spells. Wow.)
Generaly less flexable (Sub-builds have nearly everything mage has but has the addition benifit of being, well, half of another build)
Snare
Rain
I’ve found myself just generaly bored or constantly destoryed, nither of those are helping me out. I’ve been thinking alot about how to make my experence better, and I’ve thought switching over. I have 1 stat reset left. Should I switch over to a different class, or should I continue to stick with (And get better at) mage.
My 1’st magic isnt changing anytime soon, and I don’t want to make a new file (I have tons of seasonals annd items, it would take forever to transfer + I put alot of time getting my levels and Bonze Sea exploerer)
hm… im a mage main with 580 hours(200 from WoM I guess)
since I use shadow the jellyfish aren;'t a problem
bounty hunts… yea, especially you’re in the sea, can be a hassle when u can’t climb.
Honestly, if you want to repurpose the build to use something else like fighting styles, weapons, or both while still using the magic, I wouldn’t recommend warlock. Fire’s base damage is a little low, which translates to imbuements also getting reduced damage. However, burning is still super strong (as always) so there’s potential. Especially with sailor style and Thermo fist.
Fire warlock is also pretty fun if you get good at it. Plus, you can get jelly flesh courtesy of your fighting style.
no wait hold on, you can use ash to destroy jelyfish and fight off sharks.
Self explosion works perfeclty. And im saying it as im have my main whose second magic is Ash, so…
Vetex did a oopsie by making 4 different stats, now everything is in constant change, today mage is shit, 3 months ago it could one shot literally anyone, for a game called
arcane
Odyssey, the arcane is very shit unless the stars aligned for you
I was in pretty much the same situation as you. I’ve played fire ash mage since release and got up to 900 pks when I switched to conjurer. Way more options, more engaging, and usable underwater (use axe devastate on top of jellyfish). Just make another file to play mage IMO dot magics just don’t work well for mage.
