Should jail times/executions be removed? (not a suggestion)

jail time has existed since arcane adventures and its still here, and honestly its starting to get REALLY annoying because if you have a lot of bounty and you get arrested you have to spend 7 minutes afking waiting to play the game again

overall its just a big inconvienence to any bounty players day and dont say “why wont u just play fame?” because i cant gank anybody since vetex made it so fame cant hurt fame.

jail time has no purpose and it just wastes peoples time and it isnt fair because fame players dont have to wait 10 years and 4 months to play the game again after being hunted, fuck this one immersion feature

should jail time and executions be removed? (from players)

It’s as the saying goes, don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time

Educational :joy:

Sir I play on a bounty file because it’s for my oc lore
I don’t want to deal with ‘high risk high reward’ stuff when I can’t PvP, and stealing cargo/private storages isn’t worth it

I think it should stay because it gives an incentive to play good rep

If jail times didn’t exist bounty files would have literally no differences except that you have the freedom to kill anyone

Notoriety also feels more of a threat with jail time because there’s a risk to it

Jail is nothing but a waste of time; you can only pace around a small cube-shaped space or do something outside of the game while waiting for the timer. You can’t even change your armor equips, which is baffling.

Executions could stay, since they’re usually only a minute or two long, and you can actually do something in the form of thinking of some pretty cool last words. If people really want Bounty players to lose their own time in exchange for being able to kill a couple more NPCs, then this is the only decent compromise I can think of.

Jail time balances being able to kill everyone.

I mean, fame players can’t hurt others but it comes with the benefit of not having to spend time in jail.

Bounty on the other hand, is more related to PvP, like you go, kill, and success, if you fail oh well you gotta spend some time in jail (and if you don’t want to then get someone to free you, it doesn’t take too much time)

why is this an actual argument for a video game jail system.

I’ve asked for this before and I’ll ask again.
Tell me one thing that player jailtime does for the game mechanically outside of wasting the player’s time.

i think it makes more sense if you’re playing multiplayer because

  • it makes someone go to get you
  • it puts you out of the fight for a little bit

singleplayer it has absolutely 0 use and maybe you should be given like a chance to break out or something

no, add positive renown jailtime too

If this was done the community would riot and I’d be here for it.

i’ll say this before and i’ll say it again
vetex wants arcane odyssey servers to actually simulate IRL war or at least drawn out conflicts to an extent so he adds “boring” timewalls so people can’t immediately jump back into a fight
it’s also to stop bounty players to from getting too much renown because they can attack anybody instead of just the opposite side

i think more risk should be added to playing bounty, and more reward. i think fame is just the ‘default’ way of playing, with no consequences or benefits, while bounty should be for the people who like living life on the edge

that is not what I asked.
I asked for a thing it does mechanically outside of wasting the player’s time.
all you’ve done is confirm that it is a waste of the player’s time.

because that’s what it’s supposed, to do, waste the player’s time
idk what you want, more executions instead of jailtime?

it does have a purpose. jail time is to make you wait, either so that someone can save you or to put you out of a war or fight for a little bit so you can’t just come back. you are trying to say that jail time is just to make you wait (period), and disregarding the actual intention behind the consequence

yes and that’s not a good thing.
if a game mechanic’s sole purpose is to waste the player’s time then it should not exist.

especially if said time waste is literally not allowing the player to play the game.

Like someone previously said, it would be cool if you could break out of prison instead of “alt-tab to other game you have open”

Personally I think that it’s fine to leave jail time, but:

  • max jail time should be lowered, something like 2-3 minutes max
  • give some unique interactions, something like prisoners that give information about replayability features, something like towers’ locations or things like that, or maybe treasure charts to their personal treasure, since they’ll be executed and won’t be able to enjoy those riches. Or maybe a unique mini game that gives a low probability of triggering a prison break.

About execution, my personal opinion is that it could stand to be eliminated for players, since it becomes more of an annoying chore than anything else.
Bounty is already lost, execution becomes just an annoyingly long cutscene and is often used to be toxic or continuously kill some poor guy just for fun.
