Should "Paladin" be changed?

Note that this is just for discussion, and Im not really pitching a new idea, Im not sure if it will get changed at all so ye-

Continued from the Vitality Update Discussion thread, and I thought about the possibility of changing the name for the Magic/Spirit stat build.

Since Warden got changed to Oracle to reflect how Spirit Weaps are connected to the Gods, should “Paladin” also be changed to fit this theme?

Paladin seems to be named based on Tank + Magic, emphasis on the “High Vitality” of Vitality builds. Since Warden got changed to Oracle to instead fit on the “Spirit Energy” aspect more of the build itself (which makes more sense), I feel like “Paladin” partly loses its original meaning as a result.

Paladin seems to be special as it has a unique Awakening to the player. And knowing how Mages are already rare and Oracles are even rarer, it seems being both is extremely rare itself. Should it have a different name to reflect this?

I did thought of “Diviner”, its a cool name, but people might have different ideas? What do you think? I heard of Cleric or Monk

My gamer ass immediately thinking of Genshin :sob:

Paladin should be for weapons, nuff said

I think paladin already fit, maybe because i played dnd before, a tanky knight that can casts magic and swear oath to something divine

But hey monk would be a cool name for juggernaut

Live Juggernaut Reaction:

Paladin would for Knight a tad better though, imo.

Juggernaut sounds pretty cool for a Strength/Vit build. Though yeah, a Monk might also fit for Strength/Vit, though I personally prefer the former

Thats true, but considering how Warden got changed to Oracle, which is a reference to the Priest/Priestess of the past that used to use Spirit Weapons, it makes it sound like a Paladin is actually supposed to be a mix of Priest/Wizard class rather than Tank/Wizard. Thats just my thoughts tho

if in theory something like this happened… knight, juggernaut and paladin would need to be changed

honestly i dont see a point in changing these since you are sorta a “tankier warrior/mage/zerker” anyways regardless of spirit imbue

Just call it theurgist or shaman

actually yeah
theurgist is a much better option for paladin
it also comes from the word “theourgia” which means sorcery which itself comes from the words “theos” which means gods, and “ergos” which means working (I think you see the connection there)
then just rename paladin to theurgist, rename knight to paladin and maybe keep juggernaut

Wait, wouldnt people be confused with the existence of Theurgist Set tho? Like with Oracle items, wouldnt they assume those were for that class?

I don’t really think that would be an issue
quite a few newer players already use items that aren’t really meant for their build anyway. and nearly all players that have a bit of knowledge on the game would know that hybrid exclusive armour doesn’t exist.
Also the theurgist set doesn’t have the class specific outline, which would also clear up any confusion it might cause.

The Juggernaut and Warrior sets exist, I think it’d be fine.

Paldin would probably be the name of a being who can use Magic and Spirit Weapons but doesn’t have unique imbuement colors(Red and Gold) and they remain Deep Blue colors

But the player is different because unlike NPC paladins the Player gets unique imbuement colors(Red and Gold) so a new Stat Build name could make sense

Isn’t Paladin’s awakening literally called Blood of the Gods or something like rhat

Exactly the Players Paladin awakening is different to NPC Paladin awakening

no because paladin is connected to gods, not tanks

heres my take on it
juggernaut: mobk
knight: paladin
paladin: idrk lol

Do you see anybody thinking that only Warlocks can use the Warlock jacket, or anybody actually thinking that Oracle items = Oracle/Warden only?

Point aside, I feel like Theurgist would be the most logical replacement, since if we’re going off of the Theurgist set, it’s enchanted in a way to have some sort of divine protection from Insanity (whereas Spirit Weapons have divine powers from the Gods themselves) and was worn by a powerful Mage. Both the Vitality and Magic parts are in that description to some degree.
