We have Fire, Plasma, and Magma as base magics. While that is hot on its own, it’s kinda nothing relatively.
Extremely durable solid magic that can freeze you? Yeah that sounds deadly to me. Any type of solid magic is strong because construct generation powers in general are busted. You can shape it into all sorts of things, it’s very versatile.
Even if Steam was good, we have more than enough heat magics, and Ash already fills the hot cloud niche.

Keep in mind all magic is merely imitating something in nature, it’s probably nowhere near as hot as actual steam
Ehh I mean Ash is kinda that too, isn’t it? Look at its visuals. Those aren’t normal ashes, they’re fiery. Probably hotter than steam.

i just don’t see why steam would be a lost magic because ice is already a base magic, we already have one end of the water heat spectrum, so why would the other be any different? if steam is added it should be a base magic
also the exploiter that showcased steam magic was apparently able to make a new magic called sangdrasil, so it’s possible the steam magic they showed is fake anyway

also put your hand in ice, then put your hand over steam and then tell me the difference

Shadow DID have more, but it literally doesn’t need mutations.
Shadow of AA was literally just THE strongest, and in-lore that strength came at the cost of mental-anguish
