Wanted to post this here for feedback, and just to share my work
I haven’t written up to this just yet (I haven’t even finished writing the Redwake bit)For context: This takes place in the Nimbus sea, and Vikki (a gravy lightning conjurer) is going to the gravy base so she can complete her tranfer from the bronze sea, with Alyssa (an ice and water mage). After Alyssa and a few other characters’ defeat of Argos, Gabriella (a notorious criminal thermo warlord) snuck in and took his weapons.
Our plans would be altered only five minutes later.
“Vikki, those sails.” Alyssa pointed starboard, “I think it’s those of Argos’ weapons stealer.”
I giggled in excitement, turning the ship in that direction. “Gabriella Bellator. She’ll make a perfect first impression when I bring her to the (gravy base) in chains.”
“And so many will be relieved that a dangerous criminal has been taken from the seas.”
“Oh, yes… Uhm, even better.”
Gabriella and I would lock eyes. Her hands, locked onto the wheel, would turn it; her ship would tilt and turn in our direction.
“There’s ten of them and two of us, so ship combat is out of the question.” I said, “As soon as we get close, we jump onto that ship and give them hell.”
“Got it.”
Alyssa turned to the ship, warming her magic with one foot on the wall, ready to leap. I clenched the wheel, my palms sweating. Gabriella was just as powerful as one of us, but her crew’s combined power doubled ours.
We were almost within jumping distance when Gabriella signalled for her sails to come up.
“Stay here. Don’t attack.” She commanded, walking towards the fence of her ship, preparing to leap onto ours.
“Thank you. Your overconfidence will be your downfall.” I murmured to myself, “Sails up!”
Alyssa would hoist the sails back up. “This seems good, but I have a bad feeling-”
Crash.
Gabriella’s landing broke some of the floorboards. Her hands held onto Argos’ Axe, his Lance secured on her back. “I was looking for you.”
I got my dual swords out. “Gabriella Bellator, you’re under arrest under orders of the Grand Navy.”
“I want to talk. I know about the-”
A small barrage of water would slam onto Gabriella. Unmoved, she would turn to see Alyssa, who was now charging up an ice magic circle. I reeled my swords back and dashed towards her, swinging my swords in the same direction. On contact, she would bring the head of her axe to my sword, causing me to stop and fall backwards onto the floor. I rolled to my right to dodge an inevitable axe slam. Which she didn’t do. Alyssa would release her ice circle, sending a ball of ice hurling towards her. She dashed to the left; it just barely nudged her shoulder, causing it to freeze over.
“I know about the Order.” She said.
“That’s vague.” I replied.
“The Order of Aesir.”
Alyssa would stop fighting, and just stood still and watched.
“You here to capture us? Is that why you attacked us alone?”
“No!” She sighed, bashing her axe against the ice that coated her shoulder, “I want to help you defeat them. I heard about your fight with Argos, and with Calvus, and I thought that it couldn’t have been a coincidence.”
