Small vent about the new update

I was fighting a powerful aether lightning dragon and I got them down to just 5k hp but then dash off the cliff because you can’t see anything in the dark sea. I then die to the jank hitbox of the blast volley attack that deals a casual 600 dmg each blast and, because it was an aether lightning dragon, applies paralysis so you can’t escape the next incoming blasts. I’m not even mad about the difficulty of the dragon, I’m mad that Vetex decided to add these dragons this early on when we aren’t even supposed to fight them at our level and that the dragonblood rituals are vertical progression rather than horizontal progression. Because they’re vertical progression, it feels like a necessity to go out and fight the strongest dragons (which you aren’t supposed to fight) in order to keep up with players who have. The dragon update should’ve released farther into the future and the darkness talent line should’ve had a substitute quest in the meanwhile to max out. I feel like the four+ month wait didn’t really add necessary or exciting content and instead was a confusing “investment” into the future. But at that point, create more necessary content right now (like chapter 10 or make arcanium weapons actually polished) so that we can get to the moment when dragons are necessary and develop them then, if you get what I mean.

You’re not forced to fight dragons full-grown and above :sob: :sob: :sob: . They’re mainly there for people that wants something hard to do considering we’re not even close to their level.

Why the need to keep up though? Unless you’re a focused on pvp then in this case shouldn’t even be that hard for you considering it’s no different from fighting meta slaves.

Yeah, the Dragon update is definitely the worst one yet.
I feel underleveled when fighting a dragon, they are just so much stronger than the player.
And the other content also wasn’t that great, Darkness level 4 is a weak ability, items breaking is a pointless feature, and Arcanium weapons are RNG based and suck.

Yeah that happened to me too. This update sucks

I am focused on pvp but it is very different to fight a player than a dragon so the two shouldn’t be compared. PvP skill doesn’t translate to PvE skill and vise versa.

Uh care to elaborate? You’re actually one of the very few pvp players that I’ve met that says otherwise. Most of them just complains that high level non-boss NPCs have insane aim along with their damage which in this case shouldn’t even be a problem anymore after full release. Though the same people is alright with it when it comes to normal bosses.

If anything, pvp skill translates well to pve considering timing parry is actually a very useful skill and considering the meta being size warlord/warvant right now, then you should be able to quickly adjust to dragons ngl since it’s pretty much those except really big and easy to hit that also doesn’t block. Though you’re true on the part with pve skill not translating to pvp.

My sole problem with dragons is the blast attack and the insane scaling of damage and size that doesn’t cater to our level. The AOE makes it very hard to dodge and because I was fighting a lightning dragon each blast would apply paralysis which trapped me in a combo that would basically insta-kill. Every other attack feels very fair, it’s just the blast attack. I did make a mistake in referring to all of PvP not translating to all of PvE, parrying is a very useful skill in both especially with the lunge/slam attack the dragons use. What I was trying to refer to is specifically the blast attack which isn’t very blockable because each blast resets each parry and is inconsistent to dodge making it seem unfair.

Ah so you just haven’t adapted to their blasts yet. Yeah dragons wielding fast magic blasts would be harder to parry since there’s a very small opportunity to parry the next one, your best bet when it comes to dragons like that are just reflex dodge in a zig-zag to easily predict and dodge their aim:

Step 1 - Reflex dodge to either one side twice as fast as you can.
Step 2 - Reflex dodge to either forward or backward twice as fast as you can. (Only dash on one direction, do NOT reflex dodge forward and then backward vice versa in the same step.)
Step 3 - Repeat the cycle but dont make the same choice unless another cycle passed.

In this way, it should only take 3 cycles before the attacks end. The only dragons with blasts that are really easy to parry are those with slow magic such as metal, earth, and wood mutations.

Sentinel level 5 just does it a lot better afaik

Yeah, it gives more power compared to sentinel’s gem. Plus it gives energy too so you’re able to spam attacks longer.

But in my situation I got stuck on the side of the cliff and climbed up to see a barrage of blasts in my face. Probably should’ve just dropped down and climbed back up via spire. Anyway, we’re side tracked, the main point of my post is that I was frustrated with the fact that Vetex released the dragon update during a time when we aren’t supposed to interact with most of the dragon and that he prioritized this over other things like finishing chapter 10 or making arcanium weapons the best they could be.

Fair enough, you just got unlucky with awareness of your surroundings from the looks of it. Also the update shouldn’t really have taken that long, it’s just that Vetex had a surgery mid-development of it.

At best it would have most likely only taken two months since the dragon models were already completed during development of full release, the code was pretty much the same for all dragons except adding one more moveset for each tier from powerful+ dragons. I’m guessing we were only supposed to get Young Dragons first but as you can probably see they’re underwhelming and yet Vetex was expecting them to be grand.

On the bright side, the only thing he can do with dragons now is to add more attacks for it, more armors, more features pertaining to them and so on. There really isn’t any down side from this as all types of players are considered in the design. For example if you aren’t really looking for a hard fight to get loot and blood ritual then adolescent and below is your target, but for those looking for a hard fight then full-grown and above dragons.

I completely forgot that Vetex had surgery, I know I had heard it somewhere but it slipped my mind recently.

mistral is right there bro

at least dragons are cool, mistral was a nothingburger

Yeah it can’t be the worse update. But half of these dragons as I’ve said shouldn’t have been added. We’re not meant to fight them to the point vetex refused to add mythical drops because vetex believes if you beat one the only way you could have done it is cheating. Ancient dragons are about similar on how hard though atleast offer a more substantial boost from its previous tier powerful > ancient vs ancient > mythical in terms of the blood ritual. Though powerful dragons seem like the more popular option to face as they likely are more feasible then anything higher. At which point ancient and beyond should of been saved for later when we were stronger as an almost dragon update 2 but dragons for our new found power and lvl basically reigniting the hype of dragons because now if you don’t fight a mythical or lord you’ll always be at a disadvantage against someone who had.

At the very least, sentinel’s gem has virtually no downsides (e.g. costing a gem)

Thanks G

Ngl dragon fights get a lot more fun when you give up on dodging aoe and get yourself an armored tower shield with maxed out beast def. You can pretty easily face tank an ancient dragons attacks while blocking even after the nerf

Now that’s a point, and a good argument. Dragons are cool, but they weren’t a priority right now. Supposedly speaking, we don’t know if chapter 10 will feature a dragon flying around for fun.

But you can’t deny it, 90% of the criticism is just from people with unrealistic expectations about the update. I’m glad Vetex didn’t “die”((Author’s death)[1].

  1. (Author’s death is a concept, for those who don’t know, that refers to when the creator stops creating the work for the original reason and it becomes solely based on what the public wants.) ↩︎
