MAJOR STORY SPOILERS AHEAD!!
Yes, we all know how Tucker’s body decomposes throughout the story. We know that Edward Kenton shows up in the prison breakout cutscene if you have him hired… I’m here to talk about even smaller, more obscure, details I don’t think a lot of people know about!
Detail number 1: Lip movement in character box dialogue is accurate to what the character is saying!
Although the dialogue goes by fast and often all you see is just the character’s mouth flickering. However, if you record a dialogue and slow it down, it can be seen that the mouth movement will correspond with the current word the character is saying.
Screenshots of Iris saying “gonna”. Try saying “gonna” yourself, and you’ll realize the lip movements does in fact, match with hers. Although the mouth shapes in Arcane Odyssey is quite simple, it’s very neat how the lip sync still matches. While Vetex could have made it to just be randomized, I think the fact that it’s properly synced to what the character is saying is an extremely neat detail!
Sometimes the mouth does lag though, and it’s not 100% accurate due to this. If you wanna check it out yourself, I recommend recording a cutscene and slowing it down, or going through each frame.
Detail number 2: Character’s voice pitches are different
You know those little beepy sounds characters make when they talk? Yeah, those aren’t all the same!
Female characters will often have a higher pitch than male characters (except for Carina who actually has a slight lower pitch than some of the higher pitched male characters like Eilus). While I don’t have any recordings of this, if you compare Morden’s voice pitch to Neviro or Iris in the cutscene, it is obvious that they have different pitches.
I don’t know if these are totally unique to each character, or some kind of preset is chosen, but it’s fun to compare pitches of each characters (and perhaps even headcanon a real voice for them…)
Detail number 3: Ravenna nobles share a physical trait
Alright, maybe this is something a lot of people noticed, but I’m still going to point it out because I think it’s really neat how all the nobles are connected by this. Almost all Ravenna nobles have a tanned skin colour, with blue eyes, with either brown or black hair.
I put all the confirmed Ravenna nobles into one image to show how they all have tan skin, blue eyes, and dark hair.
Nearly no other NPCs share this feature if they aren’t nobles… Which can also bring up the question of “are these characters related to royalty?” when a character has such features.
First guy is one of the guys that help with Mayor Tilly’s abduction, second guy is the freshwater fish quest guy, and the third is the shipwright at Rasna (he has homophobia in his eyes). None of them have royal titles, so it is uncertain if they are truly royals, yet they still share the same features!
I wonder if the first guy is some kind of lost noble that will join our party later on… (Or maybe I’m just grabbing onto air?)
Something I also noticed is that Revon has a much lighter skin tone than the others… Is he adopted or something idk… (would be funny if that was the case)
Detail number 4: NPCs at Blackwater Grotto
You can sorta see where the NPCs at Blackwater Grotto originates from! This dude is from Cirrus, seen by his last name!
I’m not actually sure if there’s other NPCs with unique surnames originating from different areas of the Bronze Sea, but it’s a really neat detail that adds to worldbuilding! (And how these aren’t just random NPCs with no origins…)
…
Alright, end of my funny ramble! I’ll add more silly details I find if I find any more!
