Went for a different style on this one. It’d be a privately owned arena with curved spires made of obsidian. The only quest, which gives you Arenas access on the island, a fight where you take the place of a nameless exiled Samerian commander (now drafted) in a scripted battle against the infamous Thane known by word of mouth as The Minotaur.

No one inhabits the north end of the island for that reason. However, royal audiences visit often to watch fights, and they could escape with curses/magic energy, so they sit in royal “boxes” hanging from the spires.
… So what if someone lines the boxes with devourer/arcanium and moves in with a devourer after they’re trapped?
The Golden Ones are paid by many sources, and many stay in curse form in their boxes just to flaunt.
