Star's Roblox World Progression Post On A Game That Has No Name Yet

This is gonna be similar to my Sim’s Mobile post if you have been there before but with a game that I’m making since a whole bunch of people are making games right now on the forums. This is supposed to be Fantasy RPG inspired so hopefully I’ll be able to complete this project. I’m not the best builder or scripter but I think I have enough knowledge to do something.

Day 1

Okay so I know this photo may look a bit foggy because of the settings of the world but I’m too lazy to change the settings right now to make it more visible. You may notice some things on top of the land right now but if you can just imagine them not being there then that’s the general terrain of the world. I’m also going to have to add other games and connect them together since Roblox Studio can’t handle a lot of terrain as I had to sadly find out the hard way when I created ~78,000,000 Voxels in the world before this. I’m typing too much so here’s the photo.

Next up we have a Market Stall that I created in which I’m pretty proud of. I might have to change the materials of the parts of the stall though since I’ve decided that I want a more Smooth Plastic Material type of style for the game. I’ve created wooden crates, wooden buckets, and wooden wagons (the one you carry and there’s a crate in the back with two wheels) as décor. It’s not in the photo but I might show it in the next entry.

Also if you’re curious, all the stalls are the same in the photo, I just changes each one’s color so that I could see what they would look like.

Lastly what I have is the right side of the terrain as seen in the first photo. The left side is where the kingdom is going to be located while the right side are ruins of the kingdom. Basically on the right side the ruins are overran by goblins so that is where the player will first start off when trying to start their journey when killing mobs/monsters. What you see in the photo is the small ruins that I have created that I’m going to duplicate and spread out. Of course the land is so big that I can’t make every single ruins unique so I made 15 different small ruins designs.

If you have any suggestions then you can just leave them out here, I hope you like it :+1:

Gives me AS dungeon vibes

Gives me world of magic vibes

all i request is to test the game

COOL

you should probably work on core gameplay features (enemies/leveling/etc) before moving onto map design

having a map is cool and all but doing so before working out how the game would actually work could be iffy

a hopelessly large map without any real content for said map is just bad

for instance,

are you even able to make this yourself yet? focus on that

the ruin designs look cool enough but don’t use roblox terrain with that style
you even mention that it was causing some issues

if you don’t know how to do the scripting or enemies start learning how and don’t put it off till later

Hmm I think I can see your point. I’ll start working on the core gameplay thankz  :+1:

Yooo this is cool asf! If you need help with any builds I can build a bit, also how tester.

no one gonna talk about murican jackson on the last photo?

It looks very cool.

But you should probably focus on balancing and game mechanics as well as leveling. Which are all an absolute pain to deal with and code.

Backing up Dragon here.

Using that style with Roblox’s terrain is bound to create a bunch of aesthetic clashes, which is rarely a good thing.
While making your own terrain can be more time intensive, I recommend doing it if you want to maintain visual consistently, that or change the ruins’ material.

On another, more positive note, the ruins & stalls look pretty cool :+1:

The stalls fit well with the terrain, the plastic ruins don’t. If you’re going with terrain probably make the ruins a different material lol

Day 2
:poggers2:

Okay so first thing off I had a wonderful Subway Sandwich today.

As I have said in the last post I will now show you the wagon, crates, and bucket that I have created. Also don’t worry about the bridge in the back of the picture, that’s an old build that I made about two weeks ago, admire it if you want even though it is mostly cut out.

Since we’re still on the topic of building, some people had said that the terrain and the style of the ruins didn’t go quite together so I changes the materials. Just so you know, I had to ungroup every single ruin, change it all to slate, and then individually change eat green part of the ruins to grass. :sleeper: Anyways here ya go.

After all that jazz, I had decided to stop working on the building for now and start with the features of the game. I first made a Level Bar that is currently incomplete but is basically done. Then after that, I created a Health Bar that is complete but if numbers are more preferred for the bar then I’ll add that to it too.

Believe me it works, its just that I wasn’t running the game while taking this screenshot.

Lastly I changed the game lighting to the Future is Bright Lighting cause I’ve used it before and its really cool. Just to show you how cool it is, I took this screenshot with 'Murican Micheal in the distance while the sun is about to set. The sun isn’t actually setting, I just changed the clock time. Speaking of which tomorrow I may add a Day/Night Cycle since I’ve actually made one before. Anyways here’s the photo :poggers2: :+1:

My eyes may rest in peace now.

they still don’t really fit that well
basic roblox parts don’t really mesh well with roblox terrain in general
frankly roblox terrain is shit

Day 3
(Possibly Part 1)
:mariomug:

I’m right now about 1/5th of the way there in completing what the player sees on their screen.

First I have finally completed the XP Bar, and it was pretty hard because I wanted it to have leftover xp when the player leveled up and not restarting it back to 0 every time they level up. After eating an apple, I had an eureka moment and finally fixed the problem. Just so you’re aware in the video, one click was equivalent to 250 XP but that was just for testing.

Next up is the Health Bar. I thought it would be much better to include numbers on the health bar so that you’re aware of your health and max health at all times.

The rest of the bars don’t have a functionality yet but here is what each one will be for:

Hunger Bar - For Hunger
Mana Bar - Bar for things such as magic attacks and for other things magic related that I just don’t have in my head right now
Stamina Bar - For things such as physical attacks or moves. Also I will not make running dependent on your stamina as I’m sure we all hated that in WoM.

If you also notice in the video is a hot bar that I made. I never made one before so I had to look up a video on it but overall its pretty cool.

Lastly before looking at the video, with help on looking at the Roblox devforum, I was able to put a shine effect on the bars just to make them look nicer. Though I was also wondering if this would be too much of a distraction so if anyone would put what they would want for it that would be great. Currently there are 5.5 second intervals and after each interval 2 shines appear on all of the bars. Anyways that’s all and enjoy this very accomplishing 30 second-ish clip.

numbers are cool with red bar.

also a green XP bar might be a bit confusing for people since that’s normally the color that health bars are, either going from green to red or red to black in my experience.

Health bar flashes when you hit full hp (perhaps have the healthbar also flash between a bright and dark red when below 25%?)
XP Bar has an extra fancy flash for level up
Hunger bar flashes but just a little bit when you fill it by any amount
Mana and stamina bars have a noticeable but dim flash when they fill

All of these flashes could also have small sounds to accompany them, especially level up.

Idea here is to catch the player’s attention for important stuff like “hey your mana is full again”

Day 3
Part 2
:hungry:

I updated the coloring of each bar. I also disabled the shine for now as I am going to use it later when the game is more worked on. This also means that I’m not gonna work on the Hunger, Mana, or Stamina Bar at the moment till I work on the game more (and I also have to figure out how they’ll work first).

Also the Health Bar has been changed to where the color changes as you lower in health. [(Green → Yellow → Red) Technically it goes green down to red from the direction of right to left but you get the idea]

Nice progress. For the bars, I suggest your use linear interpolation to smooth them (Lerp or TweenService).

Just a question, you put your server scripts in ServerScriptService, right?
