yeah so like today in class we had to watch this video about the indigenous solstice celebrations, and like a quarter of the schools classes from different grades also did (this was in a presentation).
the whole time I was thinking “I wonder what those five guys slowly asphyxiating in a submarine are doing while I’m busy tuning out this video”

I mean not everyone knows the ship that cost a quarter of a million dollars to get on would be piloted by a modified logitech controller
I would not trust a controller, especially a logitech one with my life
I once bought a logitech mouse, it broke in a month. Didn’t even drop it on the ground or anything, it just stopped working 
chances are they’re stranded because it broke lol
if the wreck is ever found, logitech would be ruined

Gaming controllers are actually used by the military for controlling some stuff, like operating cameras or unmanned flying things. If I had to be worried about the controller, it’d be the fact that there was reportedly no backup in the submarine, so if that one broke, the passengers would be done for unless if somebody knew how to fix it.
I’d be a lot more worried about being stuck at the bottom of the ocean, though. Took me a hundred or so hours in AO to understand thalassophobia.

Why have some complicated joystick when you can grab the best gamer in the regiment and give them a controller
To me the experience itself seemed more like something out of a thriller fiction than something humans would actually do in real life

Looks like a recipe for disaster.
The controller does not really matter for this honestly, feels more like something that is easy to make fun of to deviate from the actual issue. Say if it goes bust, it can be easily replaced with a duplicate if such is brought upon the vessel.
Too much things can go wrong at depths like that, and it probably has something to do with the submarine cutting corners in terms of safety features and communication.
