Deckhands are a pain. I can assure you at least 40% of the whole playerbase does not or has never actually owned a deckhand.
Why? Because they are RIDICULOUSLY tedious to obtain. So, I have an idea that can change that.

Idea: Feats

Hear me out… I know last time I spoke about feats I pretty much got jumped, but this time it’ll be good.

Feats.
You can obtain feats through doing things like sinking ships, saving castaways, etc.
Deckhands will require a certain amount or quality of feats depending on their rank as a deckhand.

Certain feats are worth more than others, for example, killing a leaderboard player and getting the “You have defeated a most wanted” notification will be a feat that’s enough to get you Master deckhands, at the very most. However, defeating the No.1 on Leaderboard is enough to get you any deckhand, regardless of rank.

Bounty hunting is a big deal for getting deckhands with this, however, bounty hunting isn’t the only way.

Sinking ships also counts towards your feats, however, it is even more amplified for when you sink renowned ships.
Renowned ships: Ships belonging to clans that are Strong rank and above, ships belonging to players with Reputations above 400k.

However, this seems abuse able. After all, what’s stopping the LB players from letting their friends kill them for feats?
I’ll think of something ;-;

“Hey… don’t I know you? I saw your face on the Agora! You’re that guy who hunted on of the Most Wanted! Say, if it’s not too much of a trouble, can I hop on your ship? I’m quite capable!”

Idea: PVE Feats

This one’s gonna be a doozy.

  1. Renowned NPC ships
NPC ships that have survived for a long time, or sank other players ships will become “Renowned”.
Agora Example: “Watch out, Merchant ships. A dangerous sea vessel has been seen roaming the Ravenna territories, and it’s defeated almost every ship the Grand Navy has thrown at it. It has a distinct Purple flag, and the ships name is The Black Pearl. It’s a black caravel, with Fire Arcanium cannon balls. Stay safe.”
Would be rare, since most players don’t die to the ships themselves, more so the NPCs on the ship.

  2. Renowned NPC Bounties
Self explanatory. Killing NPCs with bounties above 100k can add to your feats list, albeit it’ll be a minor feat.

  3. Title Feats
This is the big fish of my PVE idea.
Getting a title, like Bronze Sea Explorer or Bronze Sea Abolitionist is a feat worthy enough to obtain Legendary deckhands. Maybe you think this is too easy… but have you ACTUALLY tried to get one of these titles? It is tiresome.
Titles like Master Angler are iffy, some Deckhands may deny you and others may accept you, since fishing every fish might not seem impressive. However, you are guaranteed master deckhands.

“Holy smokes, I know you! You’re that legendary pirate that claimed the Silverhold, even if it was just for 2 days, it was truly inspiring! Say, if it’s not too much, can I join your crew? It would be an honour!”

“Hold on… aren’t you the legendary explorer who updated all the maps of the sea? Your work will last for generations to come, and I would love to be a part of it. Please allow me to enter your crew, even if I’m just a chore boy!”

Yeah… I’m dead :skull:

very reasonable but pvp is kinda abusable like you said

Sick renowned ships idea

Actually a great idea and gives a use to the things mentioned in bounty/contract posters. The addition of renowned ships is a bit risky but I like it. Makes the ships more unique and a major threat to sealed chest grinding. PVP is a bit issue though, and I’ll try to think of a solution. Maybe killing a person for the first time counts as a feat, but each time after counts as a “less valuable” feat until it’s nothing at all. This value would come back:

  • After a bit of time (maybe a week)
  • After the person you hunted hunts you back (renown gain is a net loss so this should be fine)

This should fix the possible abuse, unless if I missed something. Despite the flak from your previous suggestions, it seems that you are taking W’s with good suggestions left and right.

Deckheads should also be obtainable through quests with varying difficulty like Edward

Love the idea. I agree that it takes a ton of time to grind out what you want for deckhands, and it also opens you up to PVP. I don’t think its quite fair that someone who doesn’t wish to PVP but wants better ship stats must be forced to (Assasinations/bounty hunts)

This is a good alternative and brings in an optional PVP element. Well done!

Very good suggestion but I wonder how Rival hunting would work since you are almost guranteed a mention in the Agora, maybe some Deckhands would consider it impressive?

Also when can I replace half of my Caravel crew with Deckhands

As a bronze sea explorer, I want those legendary deckhands

Can’t imagine having to scour the seas for a treasure chart only to get one for Ravenna(you already got a ravenna chart 128 times)

Brings in the idea of deckhands with a particular focus. Let’s say a deckhand can be acquired with Master Angler, then they’ll boost how fast you can fish and all of that when near your ship. A bronze sea explorer deckhand could give you a treasure vision/sense that can be used once every 10 minutes on an island. Lastly claiming Silverhold could get you some more combat focused deckhands that could provide the player % boosts to their ship against good reps.

I was thinking that a Bronze Sea explorer deckhand would have Resilience,Speed or (that one that decreses dammage from waves) since those are stats used for Exploration
Abolitionist would give things like Defense, Ram Dammage/Defense
and yeah Angler should give something along the lines of increased fish catch rate (mabey they even fish for you)

Yeah I tried to differentiate them from the usual deckhands
As for the angler it could vary from deckhand to deckhand. Additionally catching a Sunken should be considered a feat for these angler deckhands and/or maybe as a way to improve them (they could start as master and then rank up to legendary if you catch a sunken if they are an item angler).
