Mechanics are heavily inspired by the mobile game True Surf lol.
Introduction:
A surfer NPC can be found on certain coastal islands, chilling near the shore. He offers a fun quest that introduces a brand-new surfboard utility item.
The Quest:
The surfer challenges the player to prove they can actually ride the sea instead of just sailing over it.
- Catch 20 waves using the surfboard he provides.

The quest functions similarly to other utility-based quests (like fishing at Redwake, gliders, smoothies.. etc):
- Progress is tracked
- No combat required
- Purely skill-based and optional
Completing his quest rewards the player with a wooden surfboard, which is stored as an inventory item and can be deployed on water at any time.
Surfboard Mechanics:
Once unlocked, the surfboard becomes a general-purpose water tool:
- Can be deployed on water at any time
- Acts as a stamina-free floating platform
- Stamina is only consumed when:
- Paddling
- Steering
- Catching or controlling waves
Unlike ships:
- It does not require spawning
- It cannot be destroyed
- It is always available from the inventory as an Uncommon item
Surfing System:
The surfboard introduces a new wave-riding mechanic:
- Natural ocean waves already present in the world can be surfed
- Players can paddle toward incoming waves to catch them
- Successfully catching a wave carries the player forward with the wave’s momentum
[How It’ll look ingame]:
Difficulty & Skill:
- Larger, stronger waves:
- Move faster
- Are harder to catch
- Are harder to control
- Smaller waves are easier and safer
- Surfing rewards player timing and control
The mechanic is inspired by real surfing! - personally, each time I pass by a wave ingame I feel as if its a shame my character can’t surf it, lol.
Please enjoy the surfer-NPC render dumps I made.
Who wouldn’t want to see their character shred the seas like this..?
