The current way spells and techniques are set up aren’t as flexible as they are on weapons. Considering how they interact with Lost Knowledge and Hecate Essence, I believe they should change.
Reasoning
In an ideal world a magic would work like a weapon. Resetting your magic would simply unequip your spells which you can slot back in at any time, like with a weapon.
Currently, switching magics/fighting styles resets your spells and techniques. This is painful because it wastes time customising, as well as scrolls and lost knowledge.
When you look at how it is on weapons and relics, the difference is night and day. A skill note with lost knowledge can simply be equipped or unequipped as the user pleases. Weapons, and magic/fighting styles should have the same underlying system just for consistency’s sake.
Proposal
Addition of Spell/Technique Notes
Spell and technique notes function identically to skill/rite notes. These notes can not be obtained directly and must be created by players, doing so consumes a spell/technique scroll. Using a magic reset or switching fighting styles unequips your notes.
Once an ability is customised it functions like a normal weapon/rite note that you can slotted in or out (customisations affect the skill level requirement of the note). This includes slotting the notes into arcanium weapons and cestus weapons.
New Spell/Technique Screens
Magics and fighting styles can now equip spells/techniques directly to themselves in their respective screens.
The “Spell Forge” screen is where players convert their scrolls into notes and also can be used to customise notes, equip them onto a particular magic/fighting style or apply lost knowledge to the note.
Base Spell Scrolls
All base spell scrolls are unlocked at the beginning of the game or sometime early in the storyline (for example, Enizor could give them). On top of that, magics come with all six base spell notes already equipped, so new players can use the spells as soon as they reach the requirements.
These scrolls aren’t consumed when creating notes and are untradeable and unsellable.
Next Steps
Eventually the “Spell Forge” section could be turned into a generalised “Note Forge” area. This opens up the possibility of customising skill/rite notes using a similar UI.
