The auction house has many beneficial upsides, what I have been understanding is, if the auction house is based off of galleons then galleons will become a much more valuable resource, Example ‘I sell a sunken, I can buy something else that I need off the auction house with the Galleons I just got from the sunken.’
(You could just trade alot of small things you need as well at the auction house)
My Point, galleons become useful and players don’t have to grind so much to get what they need, in my eyes, it’s a win win
Tbh I just rly want a very hard boss with very rare drops, like, the only farmable rare item in the game rn is Sunkens wich are easily macroable and boring to get, I want good items to be a skill check, not who can macro the most
You probably already see this, but to those who’d like to know, galleons are also worth very little due to the characteristics a currency must have to be a good currency.
The galleon checks quite a lot of the boxes such as portability, durability and divisibility, since its literally tied to your character wherever you go and cant really be stolen in a physical sense.
The problems lie, however, in scarcity and acceptability. The amount of galleons you can get is literally limitless, and doesn’t take away from anyone else’s savings of galleons when you collect some, meaning they aren’t scarce in the slightest.
And for acceptability, being a more minor problem, is because of the perceived worthlessness on the galleon, a lot of people won’t accept them for trades, as they value their gear more than the gear’s galleon value.
Which is why I agree that there needs to be something like the auction house implemented as soon as we can get it so that the galleon actually seems valuable again outside of the newest ship available.
ever since refined metal dropped below 4 cents ive lost hope in infinitely generated currency
keys hit 70 ref at one point thats how bad it was
ao really do need some sort of “premium” (heavy quotation) currency or at least something thats of inherent high value due to the nature of how its obtained, like tf2 earbuds/mann co tickets/keys or rs memberships
they work well because they have a concrete determined value since they are only generated from real purchases
Tf2s economy only really fell apart because there was an infinite “currency” that had no other use. You weren’t burning it. People who didn’t have enough to buy keys just saved up stock upon stock.
Pretty sure MMOS also have auction houses shave a percent of the money every time its spent, but that won’t save the economy outright. Spending needs to be constant.
In some way, galleons need to be checked so they don’t explode. Fixing your boat is a bit of a drain, but if that was too expensive people would just be annoyed. Some MMOS experiment with paying for ‘slots’ in the auction house, or repairing items, but that would again, annoy a lot of people. So what do you do? Outside of big, repeatable purchases that sap a reasonable amount of money out of peoples accounts, eventually people will be storing incredible amounts of money.
Values will also flucuate naturally. Once we outlevel Elius gear, most of Elius’ items will drop very far in value, mostly pawned off for some quick cash to newer players and people working on new builds. That’s a given, of course, but if inflation isn’t managed, even these worthless pieces of gear will go for prices too high for the average player to reasonably achieve on the side.
It’s not easy to solve inflation, or prevent it, without the real life checks and balances .
My easiest solution is to suggest defeault items on the auction house every day. Items not owned by any player, but instead introduced by the game system, rotating at midnight every day. Exotic scrolls, rare gems, maybe even a few sunken items. The money goes nowhere, its just burned, and people will have to pay top dollar, but it helps save a bit of grind, and also does a little bit to funnel that money out.
I wish that we would get some sort of “market” auction
where you put up your offer and then other people can put up counter offers. then over the course of a week you can choose which offer to take. or whether to ignore them all and extend
gonna be completely real with you rn bro im pvping most of my time on ao and i havent even finished the build on my main file, it’s barely a prerequisite if you can play well enough
for reference, ive been playing ao a lot less nowadays since disbanding my clan (neptune), and i’m still running a hard cernyx set with an unmodified arcsphere and a powerful sunken warrior helm, and my savant is still performing just fine
Right, but you could be performing even better with the basically, five extra enchants worth of stats you could nab from the Dark Sea enchants.
It’s not like pvp is impossible without a perfected build- but you have sunken warrior helm, a buncha enchanted stuff, hard cernyx set, that’s just a lot of grinding.
I’m talking specifically about people who make a pvp file, a build they only want to pvp with and have no interest in playing otherwise, the work ahead is pretty large, the auction house just saves time. The likely reason you haven’t finished your build is because you have no interest in doing so, and there isn’t an easier alternative yet.
Right, and the auction house is unhelpful in this regard… how exactly?
There is no downside to argue here about auction house, nor does it invalidate my point that people who only want to PVP have their lives made easier by its inclusion. I’m a little befuddled on what you are trying to say here.
i never stated anything nor addressed having an opinion on the auction house feature in ANY POST on this thread
i felt the need to point out that it’s possible to pvp without a completed build (due to that it was mentioned in the OP, regardless of if it’s the main topic) nonetheless, in my case, the auction house would indefinitely be a lifesaver, i’m not saying something for the sake of starting an argument, nor to just blatantly disagree with something for the sake of it
Ah, sorry, just was confused for a second there. Just sounded like you might have had some issue with idea. Always worry that there are things I overlook when trying to be convincing so I was curious as to your perspective on the auction house as someone strictly interested in PVP.
