The New Spirit Weapon Breakdown & Theories

The new spirit weapon, the Staff of Night, for those who don’t know, has 5 rites and will drop from a miniboss in the Bronze Sea. One of it’s moves is exclusive to it and is called Nichtethesis. The prefix, nichte-, appears Greek, and with a quick google search, it appears to mean “night’s” or “nighttime”. The spelling is different, (nýtches and nýtcha respectively), but it basically the same. The suffix, “-thesis”, however, means “a setting down” or “something setting down” Although, that being said, nichte is also German for niece.

Now, using my very basic understanding of the Greek mythos, this seems to be an object blessed with the power of Nyx, the primordial goddess of Night. It can be assumed that the effects given by this weapon, if there are any, is likely the same as shadow magic. Whilst the drained status effect is the likely candidate, it is possible that Vetex could add a special effect.

While we know one move for sure, we don’t know the rest. In the Trello, a few rites have been created, and I assume that it’s for the Staff of Night, but I’m not sure. The listed rites are: Spirit rain, Spirit Hound, and Spirit Rise. Starting out with the obvious, Spirit Rise is obviously a mobility move. Spirit Rain could be a placeable, rain-of-arrows-like move that makes spirit energy rain down from the sky. As for Spirit Hound, I have no clue what that might be. It could be a homing blast, hence the “hound” (as in a blood hound that tracks), or it could be something else entirely. Let me know what y’all think.

I think Vetex has stated that spirit weapons’ elements will differ from magic’s, even using the Staff of Night has an example. He said it wouldn’t be exactly like Shadow Magic. We’ll just have to wait and see though
