I’ve noticed quite often (especially during bosses) that blocking and parrying are unnecessarily difficult and a pain to use.
The mechanic feels very unpolished; the timing and frames for parrying is off. Blocking is not as much of an issue, but only by a little. And the mechanic is ill-fit for the gameplay.
When fighting tough enemies, I usually try to parry and block their attacks as much as I can. However, much of the time I fail to because of the delayed responses. Some boss attacks are incredibly fast and become impossible to parry/block due to the delay.
Another factor is the sheer amount of chaos and effects made by certain attacks. The fancy sword slashes, air pressure, magic energy, and whatnot makes it difficult to see the hit boxes. Your parrying/blocking looks dull and meager in comparison. It gets overwhelmed easily and it’s hard to see if your blocking or not through the dust and rubble.
I believe that it should be possible to parry every attack coming your way if your good enough. At the moment, I can’t tell if that’s possible even. Parrying/blocking should have tighter time in response to the button. I think its appearance should scale with you and become more prominent as to be more visible during battle (and look cooler).
And finally, change the button to m2. It would make it so much better.
Anyway, these are my thoughts and suggestions on the blocks and parries.
the timings for parrys actually feel fine for me, i like that its pretty much instant. What i dont like is how the animation for blocking without a weapon makes it looks slow and delayed. I wish the blocking animation for no weapon users matched up with the parry frames more
thats more just to use, ive been easily doing it.
(first sentence is brash lol i have more stuff to say tho)
this is because of your ping
the higher your ping, the more delayed responses are, and thats a problem with your network and computer and vetex cant do anything to help fix that. the only way to solve it is to use ethernet or something, or you can learn to read the move of the boss.
tips: instead of spamming attacks at the boss and spamming block every time you end an attack, wait until the boss attacks FIRST then you punish the boss using an attack. this way you can parry/block/dodge the attack, and deal damage.
if you think theres too much visuals, just turn your graphics down.
if you dont like the key, use a software to rebind it, i use razor synapse to bind my block key to mouse button 4.
it wont be m2, as that was tried with weapon heavy slashes, and vetex and testers found that it was really annoying to use up 5% of your stamina bar every time you wanted to turn your camera.
I like the blocking part with vitality builds and its pretty crucial for my knight build to have a fighting chance since i can spare some hp just blocking and if its a parry, its nice
It can feel finnicky but its probably bc of my bad ethernet
parrying makes final boss dumb easy though. only works if there’s good visual clarity, which most bosses unfortunately don’t have.
also, shields suck. like seriously, if parrying is considered bad on its own, then shields somehow make it worse. they eat one of three weapon slots, barely do anything except block, parrying is already all that you need, and if you play the game too hard (at all) you eventually get hit with the 5 minute time out when your shield inevitably breaks.
Yeah, I agree. But, regardless I just think parrying doesn’t look or feel great. I use a strength build and the parry just looks weird. I was blowing off a little steam, but I hope that changes in future updates
i think if you hold g during an attack then you should start blocking at the end of it, so many times ive pressed g during the last fraction of a second of a skill and been screwed over
everything else though is perfect, parries arent bullshit yet are satisfying to hit, blocking works fine, and the changes (no airstall, made combat such a slog in wom) are good
