Rough draft, criticism is requested.
The sound of hurried boots clamored through the stone hallways of Silverhold
Door Opening
Commodore Jones: “Commander Kai!”
The Commodore’s worried voice echoed through Kai’s Office
Commodore Jones: “Walk with me, quickly.”
Commander Kai: “Yes, Commodore?”
Commodore Jones: "Major White has returned from Palo Town. The Garrison isn’t going to hold out for much longer. According to the Major, the execution was successful, but after the spears pierced the chest of that damned Pirate, the crowd went into a frenzy. Lieutenant Paulson is currently fortified in place at the docks. Captain Andrews and a platoon of Marines are surrounded in the Mayor’s house.
Commodore Jones: You will lead a Navy task force to restore the island’s order and save the Mayor. You will be accompanied by Major White, Lieutenant Frost, and Captains Kenton and Wagner. You will also take three Ketches with a full complement of Marines on board. Take back the Island Commander."
One hour later
Commander Kai stands on the Ramparts of Silverhold, looking across the sea to Palo Town. It is engulfed in flame.
Major White approaches the Commander
Major White: “The marines and ships are ready to set sail, Commander.”
Commander Kai: “No time to waste then.”
The ships dock, and the Marines on board quickly rush to the nearly overrun defenses
The Commander runs to Lieutenant Paulson
Commander Kai: Lieutenant, do you know the status of the Mayor and Captain Andrews?
Lieutenant Paulson: We’ve been cut off from Andrews’ group ever since the execution went south. We abandoned the corpse of pirate captain whoever-the-fuck, and when the crowd got their hands on him, they used his corpse and the execution platform as a damned funeral pyre. So what looks to be the entire town turned against us. The original group of 50 Marines got split between myself and Captain Andrews. Nine of my marines have died. If you arrived 30 minutes later, you wouldn’t have had a dock to land on.
Two more Marines drop dead due to the gunfire
Commander Kai: Lieutenant, take the Marines, secure the City, and engage hostile targets as they appear. Kill them if you have to.
Lieutenant Paulson: Commander, there are still Civilians in the crowd.
Commander Kai: What is it you didn’t understand about my order, Lieutenant? Waste the motherfuckers
Lieutenant Paulson: Yes, sir.
Lieutenant Paulson (To marines): Engage! Open Fire!
Upon receiving Paulson’s order, the Marines move out from their defensive works and begin a systematic slaughter of the riotous crowd. Commander Kai is seen leading Major White, Captain Kenton, and a squad of Marines to the Mayor’s house. The rioters seemingly had just breached the door, with marines at the top of the stairs firing down upon those trying to climb up the stairs. Kai’s squad cuts down any who don’t and even some who do surrender.
Kai’s group arrives to find Mayor Williams and Captain Andrews both alive.
Two months later
Commander Kai walks through the wide, windowed hallways of the Grand Navy’s Nimbus Sea Headquarters.
Two marines open the large, ornate door to the Admiralty Board.
A panel of 1 Admiral, 4 Vice Admirals, and 4 Rear Admirals stand convened
Commander Kai stands at a podium in front of the panel.
The aging Admiral speaks up in a voice loud enough to fill the entire room.
Admiral: “It is the decision of this board that Commander Kai be cleared of all charges of murder during the Palo Town Mission.”
One of the Vice Admirals clears his throat
Vice Admiral: “It is also the decision of this board that given the recent vacancy in the position of Commodore at Silverhold Bastion, Commander Kai, for valor during the aforementioned Palo Town Mission, will be promoted to the position of Commodore. Congratulations, Commodore Kai.”
