I have not seen this being discussed a single time yet. People seem to underestimate the rarity of this item, and no one ever talks about it.
So what exactly is this item?
Take a wild guess.
if you guessed headless, you are not only wrong. You’re also stupid.
If you guessed Prometheus’s Acrimony, you are also wrong.
if you guessed golden apples I appreciate the effort, but you’re wrong as well.
If you guessed any piece of the sunken set you probably don’t play the game enough to know there are rarer things
if you guessed atlantean essence you just didn’t want to think much about it
If you guessed anything that’s not on the list above I still doubt we are thinking about the same item
I’ll admit, it probably isn’t the rarest. But this item is forgotten about so often that I bet some don’t even know it exists

I’m talking about lurker eyes.
For the first few updates I believe this indeed was the most rarest item, as whirlpools had a glitch where they only spawned 30 seconds after a new server opened. (Source: Cryonical) The chances of getting in a new server are quite low depending on the context of course, but when joining the game I don’t think most player’s first instinct would be to check the server age and go to whirlpools to hunt sharks. Keep in mind there is also a low chance of actually getting a lurker eye upon killing one. Currently they are still pretty rare, because a whirlpool will usually despawn faster than you can kill the actual thing, and they tend to move around. Even with ship attachments, your chances of obtaining a lurker eye are small.
It is only now, after hundreds of hours of gameplay, that I managed to obtain one.
