The story is held back BUT thats partially good/schizo 1 23am rant

One of the points of the Arcane verse is that “Humans are fing barbarians, thank GOD we dont have magic, we go crazy with the power we already have”. But to be honest, I never really felt this point was itched in so far in the story. Like we know, theres these kingdoms and they’re haggling to hoard as many curses as possible, by any means necessary, but I don’t feel like we really get to see the brutality of the situation. I think how the game is designed prevents some of the darker aspects of magic from being fully explored. The fact that we’re going through OUR perspective and it’s a kids platform kinda hurts the jist of power corrupting.

Magic is.. a very powerful tool, one that people can use individually. If you’re cracked, you can do whatever you want. Literally nobody can stop you if you’re not going up against a group or a GOAT as strong as you. Frankly, I’m surprised the protagonist hasn’t arrived into the magician-pirate Judge Holden yet. There is really potential for the most unhinged character to just appear out of nowhere and try taking our cheeks. Mo power mo problems. Sure, we can use the extra power of magic for good, but WHERE ARE THE PSYCHOPATHS? You CAN NOT tell me people are being raised into good families in this verse. We need some cold-hearted killers man.

People have laughed at vetex’s ideas on becoming an author once the games over, but really, it’s the only logical conclusion if he cares about his creation. And to be honest i think most of us would double-down on developing a verse we’ve cooked since childhood. Even at level 600, this story will be held back because of Family Friendliness and the fraudblox engine.

But really, I don’t think Arcane Odyssey is some deep philosophical insight or whatever. I don’t think that’s the end point of the story. While it would be cool for the idea of POWER AND HOW IT INFLUENCES HUMANITY to be explored, I believe Arcane Odyssey isn’t about that. Well, it kinda is a little bit but I think so far AO IS SUPPOSED TO BE A STORY. not necessarily a story about something, but a story about our journey. the central point of AO isnt necessarily some Power corruption human morality bullshit, that’s just the verse in general. maybe we can take that away from the story in the end idk we’ll have to see where Mr. Games’ writing goes

And tbh even when there is a relatively “Oh, this is serious” event, I don’t think its portrayed well, coould be different in the future but storytelling as of now is kinda just weak, like Iris literally melting a whole island, it game kinda just goes “Okay bitch, get in van” after we slap this ho into joining our crew a mountain climbing arc later. I was only really invested during Ravenna because of Revan’s punk ass losing Calvus. thats where ill give credit. ravenna was the peak of it all. if we can get ravenna hype and aura then we’ll be so back. but before that is just kinda mid

There’s Mizeria a mass murderer who’s an upcoming boss that kills her victims via magic strangulation

didnt calvus torture loads of people to find curses

Plus put them all to death afterwords

How dare you slander our fair and just ruler

Nope.
