There are a couple other similarities between the shows too, for example Todoroki having a permanent scar on the left side of his face due to an abusive father
The author of MHA claims to have never watched avatar though, so I guess it really is a coincidence

Still, though, it is pretty weird that these scenes happened to characters who were the protagonists of their shows and were one of many people before them who wielded the same powers and could be contacted or interacted with spiritually with both character’s power having a spiritual connotation. Actually, now that I think about it, humanity in both of these shows is made up of mostly superhumans
