The Tale of Grey: An Arcane Odyssey / World of Magic Story. (Chapter 3)

Chapter Three: The Ronin.

Now where did I leave off? Oh right. After I had woken up from my rest following yesterdays events; I went downstairs to speak to the woman who I had spoke with the day before. She greeted me before telling me that the villages Chief wanted to speak with me, confused by this I obliged and went to meet with Chief of Redwake.

I stepped into what seemed to be a large throne room decorated with luscious antiques and trophies from the sea. As I look ahead I spot a gruff man sitting on a stone throne with a large set of sharp jaws looming above him. He greets me and introduces himself as Chief Alfarin, he appreciated my help with driving off the pirates who had invaded their village. Upon introducing myself, Alfarin asked me for a favor.

Alfarin explains that lately fishing in the area had decreased due a hermit on a nearby island polluting the water but was unsuccessful in driving him off. He asked me to investigate who or what had been disrupting their fishing exhibitions.

I asked one of the nearby sailors for a sailboat in which they obliged to let me use one for my travels. Traversing through the many pillars that made up the surroundings of Redwake; I’ve noticed a green tint in the water. The air burned my lungs when I breathed, the water itself seemed to be eating away at my boat, and I could hear a burning fire nearby with the scent of smoke.

Once I docked I slowly wondered upon the island where the Chief had told me where the disturbance was located. Ahead I saw a strangely armored person sitting near the fire. Before I could get any closer, the strange man stood up, unsheathed his weapon, and turned around demanding that I leave this place.

Although before I could answer he swung his blade with such rapid speed I could barely dodge. His attacks had some sort of green burning liquid behind them which melted any surface it had touched. As he kept attacking, small droplets of this corrosive substance burned my clothes and parts of my skin. I had to act before this guy causes anymore damage.

I used my Magma magic to defend myself against the Ronin’s assault; with a few of my attack grazing him. He seemed to also be able to use magic with his bladed attacks, nevertheless I was able to hold my own against him for short time before managing to land a direct blast to his chest.

He staggered back in pain as he dropped his blade to the ground. He accepted defeat and told me his name was Shura. He asked me what I was doing on his island; there I explained that his Magic is causing problems for the surrounding wildlife and for Redwake’s citizens. Shura had not known that casting his magic out to sea would have consequences, for he had just discovered his use of magic. He told me that he will cease his actions and that he would leave the island.

I thanked Shura for understanding as I head back for my sailboat, as I sailed back I contemplated on why I didn’t have any recollection of my past or how I even got to this place. Before I could dwell further on that thought I had made it back to Redwake then went to inform Chief Alfarin about my investigation.

He asked me what had happened on the island. I told him that I had fought the Hermit, and he agreed to leave the area. Alfarin asked how I managed to do such a thing and I responded with “He respected my strength.” The Chief acknowledged my explanation and thanked me for my cooperation.

A few hours had passed before Chief Alfarin had summoned me one more time. He told me that one of his scouts had not reported back to him lately. His scout was on an island called “Frostmill” and tasked me with asking him to return to Redwake to report his findings . I agreed to set out to Frostmill the next day to find out what had caused his scout not to report in.
