The Viability of Various Modifiers: 1.17 Edition

This post is like the last one I made on this topic, discussing the uses, and overall viablility, of modifiers. This version includes the new Abyssal modifier, and has new opinions from me on them. If you have any personal input, please feel free to comment.

Abyssal - The newest modifier, and rather easy to obtain if you know what you’re doing. Breathing Jewels, Sharkrepel, and Revealing make abyss charts super easy, and despite the drop chance of Abyssal stuff, no sealed chests spawn in Abyss charts, so they’re infinitely easier to do. I suggest getting Nimbus Diver to make finding Abyss charts easier. As for the modifier itself, It’s pretty good on slower magics, and is also a decent defense modifier for people who hate treasure charts. Unfortunately, because of them being new, they are expensive on the Auction. This modifier gives Defense and Resistance.

Archaic - A very good modifier; easy to obtain, good stat increase (Size), and is great for AoE Demon builds like my 459 Size Earth Ileg Warlock. It has literally no downside other than being from Treasure Charts. It’s a bit overpriced for its obtainability though, especially on the Auction. Fort Castrum also makes them super easy to get as well.

Atlantean - This modifier really depends on what it’s on. Sunkens and Arcanium Bands? Good. Arcmancer? Bad. It really just depends on what gear you want it on. Atlantean Essence is also ungodly expensive, so just go kill atlanteans for it instead if buying it. It’s just a better idea, especially because you can get Sealed Chests for Scrolls too.

Blasted - This modifier is great. The power bonus, though small, is amazing for builds lacking power. The only thing that annoys me about it is obtainability. It is super rare, and only comes from Askursius Charts and Blasted Gold/Silver chests from Fort Castrum. Because of this, It’s also ungodly expensive in the auction, costing players as much as a powerful scroll for Arcmancer gear. But hey, the Auction is better than grinding all day for one Askursius chart, only to get a blasted toothpick.

Crystalline - This is a decent modifier. It gives speed, which is only really good for moderate speed/fast stuff, but it is an alternative to other speed increases like Enchants. It is about the same price as Archaics on the market, and is obtainable at Fort Castrum or through treasure charts. Overall, pretty decent. If you like speed, you like Crystalline.

Drowned - After some time helping a Sailord get a ton of Drowned gear, I can safely say that this modifier is OP. Do you want budget Sunken Iron? This is for you. Not easy to get by any means (20% obtainment rate on Dive Points of any type and from Underwater Chests, along with Forest of Cernunno Charts specifically, which is annoying) but is undesired by many, so it sells for cheap on the market (relatively speaking) and is pretty common from Fort Castrum. The Attack Size and Defense this gives is not to be ignored, because this is OP for Sailor Style users and Warlords alike.

Frozen - Probably one of the best modifiers. It gives as much Defense as a Hard scroll, which is nuts, and is farmable if you have the right stuff for it (MS Store and Web version of Roblox, plus an alt account). It sells for a lot, and is very good for builds that really need defense. This is almost a necessity for some builds, and can replicate the defense (or even surpass that of) Sunkens, though you lose out on the extra substats of sunken. It can also be farmed from Fort Castrum, so if you really want Blasted and Frozen, go there.

Sandy - Unbelievably mid. Intensity isn’t amazing, and despite the new functionality, it still isn’t great. It can still be good in some scenarioes, and it is super common and very cheap to buy, but is for the most part not great. The other options are a lot better.

Superheated - Absolute trash. It’s worse Charged that uses a modifier slot. I don’t think anyone ACTUTALLY wants this. It is not worth the rarity, and just generally should be avoided. Not only is is harder to get than Sandy, it’s also a lot worse than Sandy or Blasted. It is obtained from Treasure Charts at Sameria, Blasted Rock, and Ravenna specifically, and from Fort Castrum. It CAN be used as a substitute for Blasted, but is not recommended.

Again, if you have anything to say about these, please feel free to comment. Input is greatly appreciated.

all of them are useless, why would I use a modifier when I can simply use sunkens and atlantean on the other 2 accessories, it has higher stat efficiency and you can simply use warding potions

I don’t think you really need to be picky about modifiers since they all pretty much have the same EP, just as long as it contributes to a stat you’re already building around (like drowned on an armor build that doesn’t otherwise use size would be a waste)

frozen is my favorite because it’s not super rare and free defense is almost never wasted EP, so it can go on just about any build

It really just depends on the stat itself. Some are good (Size, Speed, ect) while some are bad (Intensity has always been not great).

Really, it comes down to what you need for your build, but nonetheless, some stats are worse than others and the modifier loses viability because the stat related to it is bad, not the modifier itself being bad.

Modifiers are inherently good. Some stats are just suboptimal.

Lie Detection 101 – How to Spot Lies ...Lie Detection 101 – How to Spot Lies ...

It’s a straight stat bonus. It’s inherently a good thing.

Throwback to getting frozen fair def amulet and strong blasted fair power amulet from castrum chests

I just want to let you know that Atlantean, as listed in my original post, is a modifier.

Modifiers aren’t bad like you say they are, because you use Atlantean, which is one.

Modifiers are good for stats but inherently a bad feature

I have said it once, I will say it again, modifiers were a mistake

Vetex recognized that the enchant system in wom was too grindy and had unnecessary rng so he added unenchanting and scrolls

Then hit his head and got amnesia or something and added enchants 2: worse than wom

Like I get wanting to make generic equipment useable in builds, but there were way better ways of going about that than this

Modifiers are currently essentially a worse version of the old arcane reborn enchant system, which even they realized fucking sucked so they added alchemists

all the others have equal EP’s, atlantean has a bit higher which is acceptable since it gives insanity, but this?
this is the only one where its lower than average
absolute trash

Personally I think modifiers are great because it made me not forced to run sunken/boss drops or insanity gear for any sort of viable build. Instead, I could actually use armor that fits my class stats without gutting my overall stats.

I agree that it’s a good idea, but the execution makes the game so much grindier than it would be otherwise, it would be easily fixed by just adding essences for every modifier (they wouldn’t work on sunkens and stuff obv)

It would certainly help
