Hypothetically, if you had max devoted deckhands, each with two fish hook artifacts and squatted next to some island in insanity 1 range, could you essentially afk farm golden and legendary scales?
Hypothetically, if you were also using luck brews

Does luck affect deckhands?
Just how AFK is it if you have to eat, and collect the caught fish when they’re done?
True, it does require some testing
for the afk issue, water poisoning is also a factor alongside hunger and occasionally controling your ship to collect the fish, so it’s not “true” afking, but still a lot more automatic than manually fishing

its not effective at all. my deckhands have caught some legendary fish in the past but its so unbelievably rare, even with rusty hooks
okay hear me out; what if crews could catch sunkens, but instead of giving them to you they just wear it. you can then ask them about it and they’ll just call it a hunk of junk. i think that’d be hilarious
i mean it’d help if you, say, wanted to clean up a room or sit and watch youtube while keeping a small eye on the game. you really only gotta check in every 10-15 minutes.
the best thing about this is the fact that it’s doable. it’s not like it’d be harmful to test since artifacts can be equipped and unequipped at any point, so it’s not something permanent like their roles or whatever. and then you can just switch back to the coin (or you SHOULD anyway, it’s THE BEST) after you’re done
worth noting: your crew CAN NOT catch massive fish as far as I know, they’ll just catch giant even if you’re in darksea i1
I too have only gotten giant fish, not massive fish, from deckhands while past i1 of the Dark Sea.
even if luck did affect deckhands (it doesnt), luck doesnt help getting fish whatsoever
