Well, it’s not impossible.
My hypothetical Palo Town chapter literally has us building a friendship with Elius, making acquaintance with Carina and getting some respect for general Argos.
And while those connections will be strained the moment we figure out Elius is an agent of the Order, they’ll nevertheless have existed. I imagine the player will feel at least some disappointment or regret, having to face off against siblings.
yeah before we learn they’re evil i could see this happening, just don’t think iris should be a part of it. Maybe we meet them first and then they can do their dialogue and stuff with idle chitchat before sailing off, and then we get to meet morden and iris (iris couldve docked there, went into the town, whereas elius and carina docked there temporarily for supplies and we just caught them halfway through it to strike up small talk)
there could also be dialogue where iris tells us that those 2 are nobles from ravenna and reminds us that she’s wanted by ravenna after they sail away
I think having Iris introduced would nevertheless be a good opportunity for character development on both sides.
Let’s assume that the two of them don’t actually know what she looks like. She might introduce herself as your friend, or more aptly acquaintance, who’s looking for information on her father. Keep in mind that Revon says that Calvus left to investigate the curse on the island, and that nobody even on Frostmill knows it’s a person melting the island. Even if Ravenna Realm is actually hunting her, not many people would know.
This does conflict with the player being presented as a hero, but the player could just say they resolved the curse or something, or better yet, Owin could give them a reference letter so they can find a room at Palo town or something similar.
So yeah, she introduces herself as your acquaintance looking for her missing father and they say something like “good luck, hope you find him”. They also quickly get along with the player, seeing Owin’s letter, tell them they’re always welcome in the home of Ulricus, then leave to prepare further.
Iris then properly tells us who they are, that is, important Ravenna nobles, and why you must be careful what you say around them.
Basically, Iris has a one-way tense relationship with them, while you’re the connecting link between her and them.
yes i agree she should definitely be at this mini-arc before chapter 1 ends, kind of setting up for a sunshine and rainbows story where we befriend everyone before we realize elius is actually part of an evil cult that tortured us
the issue is, i feel like elius and carina would be part of the people who know for 2 reasons
- they’re part of the order (iris’ dad got executed for learning too much about the order so iris was likely going to meet the same fate)
- they’re ravenna nobles
but i mean it could easily be decided that only argos and calvus was after her, but i feel like the way she talks about her status as being wanted (a single line) implies that the entire bronze legion knew of her and would capture her on sight.
actually its presented as the opposite in the story (at least by the time of the ravenna arc, since we destroyed fort talos and killed the king, we’re wanted by the navy, but not really sure where we fall before then, i guess a rising hero so nvm)
possibly yeah
working with limited info but this would just come across as suspicious to them
timeline of events:
abducts and executes a girls dad because he learned too much, girl has flare magic so in fear of her power they send the legion to capture her, hear reports of a sudden “curse” befalling the island of frostmill causing it to melt, random person comes in and fixes the curse (or it just gets publicly announced that it was iris since we defeated her and were able to 100% confirm it was her melting it), said person then comes to palo town with a girl who matches the description of wanted girl
maybe after we defeat her, iris puts on a cloak in public places so that any ravenna spies or privateers don’t recognize her, then i could see this working out (getting defeated by basically a nobody shows her that she’s not strong enough to fight back against any force of ravenna yet)
yep sounds fine
Vetex, for some reason, tried pulling this gimmick way too late by creating Lord Ulricus.
Which yeah, kind of worked because a frown came to my face when i read his dialogue for the first time
“oh well my children are most likely dead. kinda sad i guess but i gotta go back to malding at arwald.”
arwald lowkey a ragebaiter
Hoping to see Arwald’s skull on a spike by chapter 12!!!
step 1: find a rival named arwald
step 2: hire knight’s proxy to KILL them
step 3: profit a loss of 5k drachma
It could easily just be her paranoia. She knows she’s doing a bad thing, and she knows her father was arrested already. It’s not a stretch to assume she’s afraid and imagining the entire Bronze legion is after her already.
Emphasis on Ravenna arc. All we did by now is stop the destruction of a Ravenna territory, at least as much as the average Ravenna citizen knows. However, they don’t even have to know. Since the only people to know of our deeds are living far from Ravenna or don’t have it in their interest at all to actually verify our deeds, Ravenna’s government can just withhold that from the public and reveal only our crimes, to not make an inconsistent story.
This is the timeline of events, yes, but events as the narrator knows them. We don’t actually know what Ravenna knows. There’s not actually anything to suggest they knew about Iris’ flare magic, much less that they sent the legion after her. Thus, it’s entirely plausible that they couldn’t connect the curse to her. Furthermore, if the player actually wants to help Iris, chances are they wouldn’t reveal it was actually her, they’d try to hide as much as possible.
Overall, I don’t think it’s that unlikely of a lie.
Personally, it was more of a “Well, this is awkward” smile.
It’s better to add weight to murder by fleshing out the victim as a person before you do it rather than after.
maybe not befriending them but at least meeting them or hearing about them somewhere before we fight them
bosses like elius, carina, ivar etc have no build up and just appear out of nowhere
carina i can see, but we sort of hear about elius and ivar, just not actually name-dropped
obviously we learn about elius and the other order members from neviro we just dont know anything about him (this is also why i mentioned to give neviro a dialogue piece telling us that one of the men dragging away beringer had golden armor, that was elius)
as for ivar, his name isnt really dropped but the vikings do yell out in the chat to call for the Jarl or something along those lines, so like sort of but not really (I also think you can hear his breathing from outside the ship)
but yeah they could have more build-up, ill get around to ivar when i do a second yap sesh for nimbus story
Oh yeah Neviro exists
Yeah lowkey I’m almost willing to fling him into vents of Aeolus since he really doesn’t seem to bring much to the story
hopefully that gets fixed when we see what he was up to in ravenna
but if we get there and that bum is in trouble or needs to be saved, im letting him die
Also tech/vetex’s explanation on why Ravenna can’t just murk him is bullshit.
“Killing a prince is bad look” yeah well Nero had no qualms about killing a king and Octavious had no qualms killing current prince’s father
Well…it’s too damn bad that the current King, (Or well, Queen) is at most 17 years old (If we assume that Calvus had a child right as he hit 18, we try to be ethical here) and would probably not want to kill a random Prince
Although, I’m not saying that it’s not a possibility, she might be just as evil as her parents and go for the kill anyway,
Are we really going to act there aren’t 100 nobles with the same attitude?
except now hes imprisoned eternally unless someone breaks him out
he did? not seeing where this is stated
Neviro’s journal, it’s actually Calvus but it literally makes no difference
Winterveil was dead for over a century and we’ve been told that only tinfoil hat theorists talk about it
