Thoughts on 'Crafting' system in AO?

Crafting? In AO?

You know how craft workings.
You get a few materials, ores, etc, and combine them at a crafting bench to obtain an item.

The freedom (in terms of game design) with Crafting is that there can be many different ways in which the materials for such items are obtained/found. There might be really basic components such as wood, or really rare minerals such as rare ores that spawn rarely.

Things that can be craft in most RPGs include:

  • Weapons
  • Armors
  • Accessories

Would be an interesting feature in AO, especially since exploration is one of the main features of the game.

The introduction of crafting would also tie really well with the following features:

  • Mining system (ores spawn at locations, you go and mine with a pickaxe etc)
  • Crafting as a player profession

What do you guys think?

anything short of this as a crafting system would be a disappointment

Perfect.

I made a suggestion about that a while ago (wasn’t accepted).

ao ripped off minecraft!! I’m gonna post this to my twitter dot com!!!

That’s a shame

This would be perfect for some things. Example:
Why does a Poison tooth Dagger drop from Poison a jaws instantly, seems strange.
You instead get a poison tooth. If you get something like steel for a handle idk u can go to the blacksmith and get a Poison Tooth Dagger

would be cool, but with some tweaking and consideration.

vetex cant just make crafting focus pretty much just weapons. it needs to be important for ALL classes. what would magic get? just accessories and armours? if weapons can craft, well, weapons, magic should get a third thing to craft. what will they be able to craft? spells??? doesnt seem right.

and as Ultra said, it wasnt accepted. vetex probably has his reasons, crafting seems like a chore to make and there is already a lot of major mechanics. so, he doesnt add more. it will make the game confusing.

Magic gets stuff like staffs, crystal balls and books for casting
The real problem is when it comes to fighting styles

so like magic weapons in AA? i can see them as magic weapons, but thats it. even still, that isnt something a mage can use, as mages are purely magic.

And regarding the overall conversation
If crafting is implemented right it could be really useful, mages could craft arcanium weapons or the previously mentioned items, warriors could craft one of the 23 different weapons using resources found from chests or from bosses and as for fighting styles I really couldn’t tell.
If you got the resources from many different areas and made the system interesting it could make chest grinding a bit better

Slightly different,

From what I presume these items will alter different stats of the magic, for example a magic staff could enhance intensity, a crystal ball could increase aoe and a book could increase casting plus magic speed I’m not saying that these are exactly what they are going to do, but it could be what they do.

today i learnt there are gonna be things for mages to equip :frsleepin:

Do you want the Monster Islands ion gem grind in AO?

Hell yea its better than strict RNG everywhere.
I’d rather grind for a month doing what I know will fetch me a reward than something that might reward me if I get extremely lucky.
Even if it means I have to fight off literally everybody in the server doing it.

Appreciate the support from everyone :poggerfish:
