Thrusting weapons are a travesty

Of all the weapons in the history of humanity, the graceful Rapier has to be my favorite. And in AO, it’s in the worst weapon category.
There are 4 thrusting weapons, you know how many of them are good? None of them.

They all can only have their own moves, which can also be used by other bladed weapons. The exception is Lance of Loyalty, which can have two more self-explosion moves, even though it already has one.

Why is it such a third-class weapon? Katanas and Swords literally have the exact same move pool, and you’re telling me, another kind of medium-sized sword, can’t have even ANYTHING else?
Even almost every other weapon with a blade can use Shining Cycle, which is like, the only good move thrusting has.

In conclusion, suck my swordfish for how you treated rapiers.

a terrible world for all the musketeers in AO, cant put new skills on their rapiers and muskets :pensive:

I LOVE the Rapier as a concept; light, swift, and easy to use. Problem is that it was good until the Weapon Customization update both put it in the hospital and took its life support. I don’t know why it can only use its natural skills even though it could easily have Bladed or some Katana skills with how it’s used.

The Rapier’s existence is why I’m mixed on Weapon Customization; it made some Weapon types entirely irrelevant or worthless. Is the Rapier’s unique grab really worth having to the point of dedicating a full Weapon slot to it? Why should I ever use a Staff if Polearm weapons get both of its skills? I feel like the only logical Weapon setup is one that can use as many skills as possible, which is really limiting.

I couldn’t have said it better myself, mainly due to the fact that my only two fully upgraded files are Mage and Juggernaut.

can someone please explain to me why the thrusting weapons can’t learn sparrow thrust??? The lance of loyalty has the PERFECT shape for the skill and yet for some stupid reason it can’t be forged onto the bloody thing, honestly, weapon customization was definitely the laziest update by far, so much wasted potential, and extremely obvious weird things like this not being implemented.

The amount of sense that would make is palpable.

ngl thrusting skills should be harder to block, since the area is smaller and harder to predict (unless they have a shield).

anims

also love rapiers but the issues is the animations. because the rapier is left handed IIRC it can’t use many swords skills because it is right handed.

yeah i was confused by that, along with how polearms cant learn piercing strike and thrusting weapons cant use polearm impale or whatever it was called (come on, the weapon designed for stabbing people cant use the move that stabs people for seconds at a time?)

It’s because the animations wouldn’t line up, Vetex said that considering the lack of costumisablity

then he should spend time changing it so that spear is mainly wielded with the right hand instead of the left
unless it’s too much work but i digress

Rapier losing its one redeeming trait (shining cycle) within one update

Vetex already said he ain’t wanna do that

Aside from everything that benefitted me in that update it was an absolute travesty, I don’t know anything about development but I really don’t understand how some animations can prevent all of the customization that update could have brought, but simply didn’t

I’m crossing all of my fingers that eventually somebody can make animations for weapon skills that will make some weapon types worthwhile again. Even then, unless I’m remembering wrong, the Rapier is used with the same hand as every other bladed weapon, so that wouldn’t have been an issue with giving it more skills.

it is :pensive:
