Proposal

Suggestion: Time Rift Boss Trials

Overview:
Introducing the Time Rift Boss Trials, a unique server option in Arcane Odyssey that lets players over level 145 step into fractured timelines to face legendary bosses from Arcane Adventures. These rifts appear throughout the world, offering intense, nostalgic battles, exclusive loot, and a challenging experience for both veterans and newcomers. (The rifts would have a set spawn over the war seas for a weekly rotating group of bosses.)

Details/background on your proposal

Key Features:

Accessing the Time Rift:

  • Players can find the Time Rift Gateway, a mystical structure located on remote islands or activated via an NPC or specific magic phrase at select shrines.
  • Upon interacting with the Gateway, players can choose a boss trial from the Arcane Adventures era.
  • Entering the rift transports players to an isolated battle arena, disconnected from the main world, creating an immersive environment.
  • The rift offers both solo and co-op modes (up to 4 players), with difficulty scaling based on the number of participants.

Boss Selection & Mechanics:
The Time Rift features epic battles with legendary bosses, each redesigned to fit Arcane Odyssey’s combat system and clothing, complete with unique attack patterns and mechanics. Each encounter offers players the chance to face (these are only a few):

  • Theos, The War Phoenix – A multi-phase battle featuring devastating fire-based destruction and aerial assaults.
  • Kraken, The Abyssal Terror – A chaotic sea-monster fight with destructive whirlpools, tentacle strikes, and shadow magic.
  • Verdies, The Captain Gone Mad – A ruthless battlemage who wields dual plasma scimitars and summons bursts of plasma.
  • Sage, The Emerald Queen – A lightning-infused swordswoman who dashes across the battlefield with lightning precision.
  • Ramses II, Pharaoh of the Sands – A legendary ruler commanding sandstorms and summoning ancient warriors.

And that’s just the beginning…
Each boss encounter offers unique mechanics, destructible environments, and specific strategies required to overcome them (if possible, you can also consider adding different versions of each boss for more diversity).

Rewards & Progression:

  • Boss Souls: Each defeated boss grants a rare Soul Fragment, which can be exchanged for legendary weapons, armor, or spells.
  • Time-Warped Relics: Exclusive gear inspired by Arcane Adventures’ past, such as:
    • Kraken’s Abyssal Blade – A cursed cutlass infused with shadow magic.
    • Theos’ Phoenix Cloak – A fiery cape granting resistance to heat-based attacks or can just be a flaming cosmetic item.
    • Sage’s Thunderfang Katana – A lightning-charged arcanium sword.
  • Titles & Achievements: Conquer all rift bosses to unlock the “The Untold Legacy” title, along with a special cosmetic effect.
  • Time Trials & Leaderboards: Compete for the fastest boss clears, with top-ranked players earning exclusive rewards.

Balancing & Additional Features:

  • Skill-Based Challenge: Modes may even have naval combat between fleets, utilizing the new naval war system.
  • Rift Instability: Some battles may introduce randomized hazards like shifting terrain, magic surges, or weather effects to keep encounters unpredictable.
  • Weekly Rotations: Certain bosses will appear only during specific weeks, ensuring fresh and varied encounters.

Reason to add/change

Why This Feature?

  • Nostalgia and Innovation: Revives iconic bosses from Arcane Adventures, updated for Arcane Odyssey’s combat system.
  • High-Risk, High-Reward PvE Mode: Provides a challenging alternative to exploration and naval combat.
  • Co-Op and Competition: Encourages both cooperative play and competitive leaderboards for rare loot.
  • Lore and Legacy: Connects players with the rich history of the Arcane universe, letting them experience epic battles lost to time.

Counters & Addressing Concerns

  1. Balancing Difficulty for New Players
2.Concern:* Newer players may feel overwhelmed by the difficulty of these legendary bosses, especially in co-op mode.
3.Counter:* Difficulty scaling will be implemented based on the number of players involved. Solo players will face slightly easier versions of the bosses, while co-op groups will experience appropriately scaled challenges. Additionally, players can select which boss trial to attempt, giving them control over the difficulty. A progressive system could unlock easier bosses first, allowing newer players to ease into the experience before facing the more challenging encounters.
  2. Potential for Frustration Due to Rift Instability (Randomized Hazards)
5.Concern:* Random hazards, like shifting terrain or magic surges, could feel frustrating or unfair during a fight.
6.Counter:* Each randomized hazard will have clear visual or audio cues before they occur, allowing players to react and adapt to the changing environment. Additionally, players can choose to opt out of these random events for a more predictable challenge, though at the cost of lower rewards, giving them a choice in the level of risk they want to face.
  3. The Grind of Rare Loot and Rewards
8.Concern:* The grind for rare loot and Time-Warped Relics could feel too time-consuming or inaccessible for some players.
9.Counter:* Bosses will have a balanced drop rate for Soul Fragments and relics to ensure that rewards are not too difficult to obtain. Additionally, players can earn Soul Fragments through various avenues — including completing boss trials, time trials, and leaderboard placements. Special events will also temporarily boost drop rates, giving players more chances to earn rare loot without feeling like they are locked into a repetitive grind.
  4. Co-Op Balance and Difficulty Scaling
11.Concern:* Difficulty might be too easy or too hard depending on the composition of the group (e.g., underleveled or under-prepared players).
12.Counter:* The difficulty will be skill-based, not just based on the number of players. This ensures that a group of highly skilled players will face an appropriately challenging experience. A fair matchmaking system will also be in place to pair players of similar levels or power, making sure that no one feels out of their depth or like they are carrying others.
  5. Exclusive Rewards for Top Leaderboard Players
14.Concern:* Top leaderboard rewards could feel inaccessible for the majority of players, discouraging participation.
15.Counter:* Leaderboard rewards will primarily focus on cosmetic items, titles, and optional content, ensuring they are not necessary for progression. Participation will still be rewarded, as players can earn Soul Fragments and relics just by completing Time Rift Boss Trials. This ensures that all players are encouraged to participate, regardless of their rank on the leaderboard. ALSO, everyone will be able to get non cosmetic items being weapons and exotic and legendary armor, its not limited to leaderboard players.
  6. Repetitiveness of Boss Fights Over Time
17.Concern:* Repeating boss fights over long periods could become monotonous.
18.Counter:* Weekly boss rotations and randomized encounters will keep things fresh, ensuring players always face new challenges. Additionally, occasional “Time Rift Seasons” with special, limited-time bosses will introduce unique mechanics and loot, preventing the experience from becoming stale.

I love this idea but I smell AI.

Not sure how to respond to that? Welp, regardless of how long I spent writing my idea, its still good right

:broken_heart:

I’m saying the formatting is like 1:1 chat GPT lol

Also yea I love the idea of AA bosses returning.

I was not expecting someone to have already proposed this. Well, its a good idea regardless and should be added for the sake for repayable content outside of story to keep a steady high player base.

That’s a whole lotta words, too bad vetex is never reading them.

I also had another idea about realms ill post in a bit.

  2. its already planned for elysium

additionally the present tense like it’s a presentation and mass amounts of bolded letters smell like ai

I didn’t generate it with AI, and there isn’t exactly a way I can prove that since I don’t record myself typing. Its an idea that is thought about a lot so obviously there will be coincidences in writing, so I don’t really get how ad hominem is helping your point.

If you can’t deal with a decent suggestion because you think its AI generated, and have to start a problem over a coincidence then ignore the topic and scroll the other side of the forums. Even with AI, if its giving you an idea that would benefit everyone in game and offer new enjoyable content, then I wouldn’t see a problem in using it (this is not me claiming my suggestion was generated).
