Anyways I think because it’s the gate of the underworld mortals physically cannot enter it just like in the original Greek mythology
But, there were several guys who actually did go down there. Its not that the mortals can’t go into the underworld, they just don’t want to. There is no guarantee you can return
Odysseus:
Aeneas:
Orpheus:
Yeah ok but they did something magical
Also Aeneas is a Trojan not a greek
Oh damn you’re right too bad magic doesn’t exist in the AU
May I mention my older thread about:
I figured Vetex was probably referencing this when making it, but sadly there’s like no info I could find on the real mythological cave (I looked through the Orpheus myth again and didn’t really find much description sadly)
Also Heracles/Hercules, Psyche, and sort of Adonis, although he was technically brought there rather than going himself
Edit: although they all became gods later so I see why you didn’t mention them. All went to the underworld (and left!) as normal humans though
Heya! Nice that you really engaged. Thanks for the notification, also (can you edit and remove the @myname) thank you!
Okay, so how absurd is the concept of this hole. First of all, we’ve done absurd things throughout the story so far. We’re facing the guild of the possibly strongest man in the War Sea, we’ve climbed mountains to the clouds, we’ve been thrown off a wall, we’ve been torn apart by a guy who turned into a glass cannon and threw himself at us, after being beaten and enslaved we still had the courage to escape and kill their king, we used a HOMEMADE PARACHUTE to fly through the clouds, we fought a legacy, we fought a crystal curse user, we fought literally the man who has Lazarus’s blessing who 98.2% of the time can’t really die and comes back stronger so we can kill him three times again, we’re getting involved with the order that literally controls the entire War Sea.
Beyond the story (most players know), we went to the epicenter, killed a legendary beast called Omen, and in the future we will kill trillions of dragons until we exterminate the race that is already at risk of extinction.
In addition, we spoke with the god Poseidon, spent days in the Dark Sea searching for pages of Athenas, and found part of Hecate’s soul. GODS, we literally spoke with a SINGLE guy and purely ALONE destroyed an ENTIRE EMPIRE and has the BIGGEST WANTED POSTER IN THE WHOLE WORLD, like it’s a Friday night at a bar.
Then we see a hole in the ground and we get scared.
What could possibly scare the MC? Why is it scary for the MC? I’m not saying it’s a script flaw, I’m saying that if, after all that, we’re still scared of a hole where they throw rotten and murdered bodies, I really hope it’s the gates to hell. Or at least a gigantically absurd cave under Nimbus clouds with no easy way back.
It’s probably like if you enter it you’re gonna get far more tormented worse than what Chaos could directly to you, given the underworld likely having themes of Hell / torment / agony, because hey, Hades is already evil. Why not make his domain a reflection of that as well?
Or:
It’s work in progress
I like lore as well, and I’m currently also learning greek mythology so this is really useful/fun :>
Oh yeah sure
Vetex is down there (yes self insert) and is preparing to retcon blast whoever falls down the hole into the underworld
/j
Constructive correction (don’t take it personally): Hades is a good god and RULER of the underworld in Greece, with a strong sense of justice.
On the other hand, Thanatos, the personification of death in Greek mythology, is portrayed as someone calm, like those representations of a skeleton that gently guides you.
Don’t confuse Thanatos with Tantalus; that one was evil in the current sense.
No hades is the bad guy in the arcane universe, controlling / swaying acheron into evil by using the absorption blessing
Well, I can’t really say BAD BAD when the Aberration is there, but just so you know, he was pulling some bad strings in Arcane Adventures’ side of the world.
SERIUS??? Oh no, I saw once that it was good in the game, I was happy to see it portrayed correctly, apparently it’s just another erroneous generalization about its function ![]()
Thanks for the correction, by the way. And sorry for my silly mistake.
Echo, where did 80% of the human population go?
Oh, if you misunderstood, I meant that Acheron found the absorption blessing when he was young, and when he had it, he got controlled / persuaded by hades
Listen man, Acheron’s hands, not Hades’.
I never stopped to think about it, but can’t gods have curses? I know the gods died before they were fully created by Prometheus, but canonically, could they?
Besides, I didn’t know that part of Acheron’s story, where Hades influences him; I’m really surprised.
I really hope we can see The Banished King in the future and get some cool drops.
Actually, it’s funny that the MC spoke to 10 ghosts along the way but didn’t try to help or even talk to the only guy who was possibly alive (cerebrally speaking).
I don’t think so, and I don’t think they’d want them if they could.
They’re powerful, yes, but compared to the powersets of the actual gods themselves? Meh.
The gods only died because they were lazy and stupid and allowed the guys that obviously wanted to kill them to get stronger while not making themselves stronger.
i really just dislike the whole hades’ manipulation thing, it should just be durza/acheron being a selfish asshole that destroyed 80% of humanity.
Works on the theming of war and cycle of constant violence humans inflict upon themselves with how it brought the world to this point.. making it just be Le evil god who isnt really all that too evil in the actual mythology is Lame..
In my own version, Hades wanted to manipulate him but there wasn’t really a way to do it, and Durza became evil due to having to twist his morality and becoming filled with so much magic his body and mind started to give out
given that magic is the output of chaos, a recent idea I had was that Acheron was curious at first, and absorbed more magic energy over time. chaos’ own energy through magic drove him more evil, not because of how much he had (else the strongest curse users / mages would be the same), but how accessible and fast he was accumulating it (absorbing)
