Finally home
Welcome Gods and monsters, and those dare defy them!
Here I am, screaming into the Void, my hand clenched in a fist pointing up, trying once more to be helpful to this game I love so dearly.
Here you have it:
Combat Arts
TL:DR
Premise is simple. Grab the system you use to choose imbuement, preferably turn it into a radial menu.
Now turn it into an additional, and I can’t stress this enough, it is an additional tool, not a replacement for your individual combat tools (magic, weapons ETC.)
When you select this tool, it prompts a radial menu for you to pick which combat tool you want. It lists weapons, magics and fighting styles individually so you can select the one you need as quickly as possible.
Concept - Objective
The mains idea is to nest all of the combat tools, which can get a bit out of hand specially with weapon users, in a single tool in order to unclutter the inventory and reduce finger gymnastics, making it more accessible.
Mechanics - Workings
-
It would nest every stat dependant combat tool. That means weapons, magics, fighting styles and spirit weapons.
-
This tool does not include consumables like food, potions and gels, even if they have combat applications.
-
Ideally, the order each tool appears should be customizable in some way as to allow the player to prioritize their most used option
-
In case that’s too har to implement, then the way should be, clockwise: Magics, Fighting Styles, Spirit Weapons, Weapons. Each of them appearing in alphabetical order
Acquisition - Implementation
Here is a list of ways to introduce this, listed top to bottom from best way to the worst:
-
1. Every player spawns with it. No strings attached, at level 1 you star with it.
-
2. Upon awakening, as a bonus, this feature will be available.
-
3. Through a quest. Similar to how you unlock “Dodge Reflex”, there is an npc you can complete a quest for, and on completion they’ll teach you.
-
4. Savant awakening. If you don’t want to give this to other classes, at the very least grant this to savants as an awakening bonus passive.
Reason - Benefits
-
Removes some hotbar clutter
-
Allows for a more convenient use of combat tools
-
Creates room for non combat tools
-
For savants and weapon users it allows more room for consumables
-
Due to the nature of radial menus, it still maintains the skill ceiling for classes with a lot of options like savant, while fixing the finger gymnastics you need to do to reach all the way to the 0 key
-
Improves accessibility
-
Is completely optional for the player, so those too used to the old system won’t be harmed
Pre-edit Post
Hey guys welcome back!
For the time being this post will have no fluff cause i’m at 1% and idk when my phone will die.
So, here’s the pitch:
Add an EXTRA optional tool that’ll work as a universal combat tool.
You select it, it’ll show a radial menu, or something like imbuement.
Then, you pick whichever combat tool you want and it will equip it.
It is optional so you can still have each combat tool individually in the hotbar. It’s radial so it still demands a bit of a “skill” to use all of the options, for all those “savant power is having options, so the skill is being able to press the right buttons”
This aims only to remove finger gymnastics as it is hit to accessibility.
Feel free to comment or vote, but please refrain from rating it rn as it is far from complete. When i can get around to charging my phone i’ll edit this.
