“There will always be the winners and the losers in life, the victors and the vanquished. I am one of those losers. My past isn’t good enough to be a normal citizen, and not pure enough to align with the ideals of the Grand Navy. I turn to my last option, the one whom the GN has yet to understand, the life of a pirate. If you want to find me, you’ll know where I’ll be.” - Remi Hemlock
Each marine took turns looking at the note their former comrade left for them. She was the former navy co-commander stationed at Silverhold and had inspired most of the crewmates to start trying to rise up through the ranks. Word quickly got around to the other navy commander on base, a man almost pushing 70 and yet to go to a retirement home. He is said to be the strongest in his rank and yet his true strength has never been shown to the lower ranks. The commander reads the letter and stands up, towering over the marine quivering in his office.
“Commander Quasir, Remi wouldn’t do this on purpose. It must be a covert operation or something like that. Let her be just this once.” the marine stammered.
“No. Even I was not informed of this operation. Send a message to the higher ups asking about Rei’s abrupt resignation. Until they get back to me, she is a traitor of the Navy. I, Quasir Solum, vow to bring her down in the name of justice. Get the fleet ready, in the morning we’re going after her.”
Today wasn’t the greatest day to be a deserter. Remi opened the Bronze Sea Editorial to the forcast section where it showed thunderstorms and rough waves for the rest of the night. She knew her sailboat wouldn’t last long in the storm and seeking refuge at Palo Town would be the best idea. Turning the page of the wet newspaper from the morning, she saw reports of islands being captured south of Akursius Keep.
“I would have been the one capturing them if I hadn’t left the navy,” Remi thought to herself. “It’s only a matter of time till people start questioning the actions the Grand Navy had taken recently.”
Suddenly, the paper flew out of her hand. The wind had picked up and her sailboat was moving out of control. She grabbed the helm and swerved right, barely avoiding the whirlpool next to her. Unfortunately there was another crisis at bay: high waves at 2 and 6 o’clock. Remi cursed under her breath, what else could possibly go wrong? A whirlpool to her left, behind and to the right of her were waves that weren’t slowing down anytime soon and no land in sight ahead of her. Suddenly, lightning struck the deck as if to just spit in her face. She cursed again.
“600 galleons for a ship to go down this easily! If I make it out alive I’m going to have to talk to Cestus about this hunk of junk he made for me.” she said with a nervous laugh.
Remi turned the ship towards the waves and went below deck. She found the lightest box she could manage, brought it back up, and held on. It was all she could do to stay afloat when the impact hits the ship. Thoughts swarmed Remi’s mind and tears started to fall. If she makes it out alive. This could be her last day and she didn’t want it to end like this. She wanted to explore more and be free, making changes for the better of the seas. All that was ending tonight. The wave hit with such an ice cold ferocity that knocked Remi out as soon as she came in contact with it. Minutes and hours pass as the storm is still underway, she was lost to the currents.
(First time writing in a long time. Cut me some slack)
I’ll make Chapter 2 later cause ik when AO releases I probably won’t be writing this imaginatively
