Update schedule discussion

So let’s be honest, the current update schedule is absolute donkey donkey. The gaps between updates are way too long, which leads to people losing interest, the community flat lines and everyone starts doomposting.

So, what would be a good schedule to shift to?

  1. The most extreme version: ANYTHING THAT IS ADDED GETS RELEASED IMMEDIATELY

This is a bad idea. Bugs abound, game goes down the toilet etc. mostly just here for sillies

  1. Monthly updates.
This could work, but the updates would have to be tiny. However, if smaller monthly updates lead up to bigger updates on the seasonal holidays it could work.

  2. Bi-tri monthly updates.
This is a more feasible schedule - especially if we have one larger update a year. My personal favourite

gonna be honest, i understand updates taking long because of actual content, but things like cutscenes shouldnt really take that long i mean you can just use AI to do the cutscenes if need be, you would probably get it done in a month or less without it looking any different.

I’m going to be polite when I say this, but absolutely not.

This would alienate a sizable part of the community, in exchange for cutscenes which will likely look worse than the ones we currently have. Arcane Odyssey is a project of passion, whether it’s being developed by Vetex or the New Dev Team. To resort to Large Learning Models would be an insult to the passion the dev’s have as well as the community.

Rant over: One to my thoughts on the current dev cycle.

I honestly am fine with the current update cycle, although the constant dev notes and sneak peaks can lead to uncontrollable hype trains which invenitably end in disappointment when what is added is slightly less than what the community was imagining. That said, I still prefer long update waits in exchange for quality (if somewhat unstable) content.

Overall, I’ve always held Arcane Odyssey in a state of trepidatious excitement, at least beyond the main story (which I feel has yet to fail to deliver or deviate in its standard quality.) Basically when it comes the story I’m always really excited to see what comes next (as that’s the part of the game I enjoy the most) and and any other features I usually either just leave it be (like fort raiding, clan building, etc), or I really enjoy it like the Dark Sea and exploration.

This said, I wouldn’t mind if things like balance changes, or new moves were added once they were introduced in the Trello, after proper testing of course, while features like new chapters or Islands are reserved for the major named updates.

if the issues with ai are purely from an artistic viewpoint i respect it and have no issue with that, but the cutscenes would most likely look better, because ai just codes better objectively. im fine with how it is now but then i think most people will have to suck up the update times and stop complaining about it.

Bi-tri seems most healthy although i think more story focused updates would yield better results though for that they would probably need to cut adding content a bit idk how much dmg would do the game tho

i wouldnt mind cutting content to gain more story, that seems like the best thing for them to do for now.

Instant Updates: :sleeper:
Monthly Updates: The time to develop new or improved functionality is simply too low, sacrificing quality and/or performance.
Bi/Tri Monthly Updates: Its just enough time for developers to properly finish what they have been working on without letting the players down for the fifteenth million time.

However, Bi/Tri Monthly can realistically only happen if the game is interesting and replayable in those 2-3 monthly waiting period.

Unless it means Bi/Tri means two or three times a month, then it’s just a no go.

If major reworks are in play, then I’d pick Other (Specify), then basically say what @BronzePegasus said:

But at the moment the game’s core gameplay loop sucks too much for the greater majority to have the same outlook.

Personally i wouldnt mind it tho but i dont think many people will be happy with it

Okay, when it comes to the coding of the cutscenes (not the generation of the actual assets, or movements, idk if that’s even a thing it can in Roblox), then yeah I can imagine that using LLMs as an assistant could speed up that process. I still would rather they do it by themselves, but this is one of the few acceptable (in my eyes, anyway) uses for the technology.

Sorry if I took your comment in bad faith, I just kinda have a knee-jerk reaction to anything LLM related.

Honestly I agree, I do like a lot of the open world elements, the extra islands with their quests and secrets are awesome, the talent quests were a lot of fun, and the Dark Sea… I mean it’s there. As for a lot of the other things, fleets, clans, raids, arenas, and what not. They just kinda fall to the wayside for me in regular play, so I wouldn’t mind less focus on those elements in favor of continuing the story.

every 3 to 4 months a update is the most realistic and flexible way of running the game.

no trust me i also dislike AI or LLMS in artistic fields just as much but i believe coding is the one field where its fine to use. as long as nothing is generated. i am actually working on a game with claude(only coding) and the speed is so ridiculous it would be insane not to use it.

i feel like there should be just a year where they focus only on story, see if we can get level 250 in the year or level 300.

For Content- Bi/Tri Monthly

For Bugs/QoL/Smaller Features - Weekly

Bit much but can be done.

No, Why you may wonder? Well they’d have to add the metric ton of +40 Lost Magics as that is when Mages will get them.

Well if they were to reach it they need to make lost magic and their equivalents ready or atleast some part of them ready it will be to much to edge us

i mean couldnt that just be the update after no? im pretty sure they already passed 180 in the test world and i dont hear anyone saying the frigate is being added so i dont think they would need to do so.

Not only that, but also the lost tier equivalent for every other class too

That’d be lying, as many expect their lost magics to be available at level 300 as per the trello card and just generally people believing it to be at level 300.

Because Vetex lied about that, he had teased it to be added for so long but relatively recently someone asked him about the Frigate being at level 180 and he stated it was never meant to be.

I do not have the source as predictably it was in Patreon chat, but its still so absurd.

Nevermind, I guess my source is my own message.

the future of arcane odyssey content is a shit fest man
